Asako Saburo was concerned when he saw the Yasuki's name on the roster. He'd been given several reports about this one, and it could be taken several ways that he was tasked with facing off against him. Hopefully he was taking matters more seriously than he had at the beginning. It did not speak well that the proctors thought him so poor with a blade as to pit him against a drunken buffoon.

However, he remained polite and bowed as soon as the Yasuki arrived.

Before taking the center stage, Jun pulls out something from his Kimono and sips from it. He steps in and bows, then doesn't really do much of anything for his demonstration, just a very basic strike post. He then swings at Saburo, but the Ishiken was faster.

Saburo's bokken lashed out, giving a smart, quick strike to the side and leaving a small welt. Nothing too painful. He had, perhaps, noticed the 'sip,' but again chose to say nothing. At the very least the Yasuki was still demonstrating a minimum of capacity in his fighting stances. He wasn't doing well, but he could strike back instead of stumbling all over himself. That would give them more of a fight in the end. When he brought his bokken down again in the fight, there was less sureness to it, but it was still a competent strike.

And strike back, Jun did! His swing was heavy handed and had no finesse to it at all however and cracked Saburo on the shoulder hard.

Saburo rolled with the damage, but he felt the force of the blow and his eyes narrowed visibly. There was a hardened grimace as he glared at the drunk in front of him. He didn't say a word, but anyone familiar with the way that the void would ebb and flow would note the difference in how he acted and responded to attacks. His body pivoted, and he lashed out with another strike, this one still as precise and measured as the last while he held back a little in case it was needed if the oaf struck again. He was inebriated, and it impaired his judgment. Where some of the other students were trying to beat each other into submission as in Sumai, this one was just too besotten to be trusted not to slip up.

Jun stumbles and his face contorts in a small grimace as he sucks in air between his teeth when he realizes how hard he hit Saburo. When the Ishiken came back with his strike, Jun was unable to counter it.

If he were a violent man by nature, that stumble would have given Saburo ample targets. There was an opening at the knee and one right at the solar plexus, both of which would have forced the besotten boy to either roll hard or take a blow of at least as much force. His bokken, instead, barely tapped the back of the Yasuki's arm. Just loud enough to be clear that he'd touched him and that in a real fight with live steel the blow would have been crippling.

He could see the grimace, and he had a choice to make. Use the last of his reserves in case Jun stumbled again and struck something vital without really intending or end this swiftly for both their sakes. Saburo opted for the latter. he'd struck twice, and was the better of the two of them by the look of things, even if only by a thin margin. If he could bring this to a swift conclusion, that would better for them both, and with that in mind his bokken lashed out again.

Saburo's strike was easily able to overcome the Yasuki's feeble guard. He lets out a held breath, almost sounding like a sigh of relief and bows to Saburo.

"Thank you for the match"

Saburo returned the bow, sighing in his own relief. This was a potentially disastrous situation, and the Yasuki was supremely lucky that he had faced someone capable of healing himself afterwards and just skilled enough to end it before an accident. "Thank you, Yasuki-san," he said in a diffident, carefully measured tone. He thought about saying something, but the truth was...

at the end of the day...

He didn't care about this young man. And the thought skidded from his mind like ripples on the water. he didn't have the energy for this. Maybe he'd say something to the Kaiu later. Provided he was not stopped, he would go to the side to call upon the kami to aid in his recovery, grateful for a moment away from this boy.

Jun (Water) - 2
