[Akodo Kichiro]

Kichiro stayed up late last night studying among his cousins in preparing for this event. There was no way he could lose! Beaming in confidence he approaches the judge to annihilate this challenge.

Kichiro instead steps away in utter disbelieve. An impressive response reciting the tenets of Bushido as expected of his clan. His history exam meeting the standards. Yet this crane judge failed his etiquette? This is ridiculous he clearly performed the task correctly!

A bit wrung out after what should have been the most fun of the competitions, Nesrin persevered through this final test, but without engaging overmuch in the topic. Though she did try to give more than a basic answer to the question of complex etiquette, eager to disprove the stereotypes of her clan as unschooled in 'proper' Rokugani norms.

It's incredible how much a simple panel of 3 judges brings out all the training Haruki had when he took his sensei's test to become Nikutai. He would only require a split second after every question to answer, there would be no doubt in anyone's mind that Haruki was a sage.

[Kaito Kai]

Kai knew where she was strong and where she was weak. It was impossible to be fully one or the other; the universe demanded a shifting balance of either.

Consideration of the metaphysical boundary conditions of the universe dominated the Kaito's mind as she largely autopiloted through the answers the judges put to her.

She was weak in the aspects of the earth, but perhaps it was what the assessors were looking for. Kai's tone was sonorous, the pacing of her answers considered and deliberate, and even when it seemed like she had flubbed an answer, unconsciously, the Kaito imposed her will upon the universe and somehow bent the hearing of her response such that its correctness and certitude was as undeniably evident as a rock slide.

Dao was a little nervous as he was quizzed. He tried his best, and was even successful at the questions about etiquette.

But as the questions continued, he became more flustered and made a mess of his answers, eventually exiting the room after a poor showing.

Tanshin has gotten by so far by using his wits... and his connection with the kami to enhance his mortal abilities. This would be the third time today that he would seek the aid of the spirits to guide him.

He listened to the Judges, and realized that they were looking for a test of Willpower. However, perhaps in arrogance, he turned to the FIRE within himself...

As the judges played through the Etiquette section, Tanshin noticed certain traps that they were setting within the situations, that he was able to avoid.

While the judges give him a nod, no one seems to notice as the young Ikoma leaves without a word....

[Matsu Qiang]

Matsu Qiang was able to recite the textbook answer for whether a taisa of the Imperial Legion needed to yield the road to the funeral procession of a clan official, as well as answer a tricky question on which magistrate has proper jurisdiction over a crime committed on a river boat sailing on the border between two provinces. But his answers were rather perfunctory in both cases.

But it was the question on the Bushido code that really drew the young Matsu out. The Shosuro instructor posed a question on obeying an unjust order from a superior - the very topic the Lion study group had focused on the night before. Qiang was eloquent as he spoke of honorably resolving the conflict between duty and personal honor, and the distinction between kanshi and remorseful seppuku. It was plain that the Lion had given the subject considerable thought.

[Iuchi Prashant]

As Prashant stepped forward for his test, he was clearly happy to see the Ikoma, while his eyes when looking at the Doji showed some concern and some unease, although he still he treated her as courteously as the other two.

His answers on Bushido showed sufficient understanding, although not particularly deep. Compassion was helping others when needed, including those of lower rank. Simple question, Simple answer. Simple gestures. Nothing to surprise or impress Shosuro Tomoe there, but it was enough.

His knowledge of History was deeper, and the Iuchi happily told the Ikoma some unexpectedly colourful details about Lion-Unicorn relations shortly after the Unicorn's return to Rokugan - details Nesrin had mentioned in the form of jokes and anecdotes as their conversations in the Naadam had drifted to her lessons on History. Whatever the origin of the Iuchi's knowledge, the Ikoma was happy with his answers regardless.

The Doji's questions to him on Etiquette were trickier - whether due to their conversation the previous day or not, Prash would never know. She asked him some quite specific questions on how and if one might approach a superior with questions about one's orders, or if one wished to question one's superiors course of action. Despite his unease, Prash answered each of the questions perfectly - receiving no smile or compliment from the Doji, but earning a nod which he understood as acknowledgement enough from her.

Bowing again, he stepped back and went to look for some of his colleagues.
