Kenji knew the course. It was not the first time the sensei had chased him over him, but this time it would be important to succeed.

After his failure yesterday, countless rumors had spread. As far as he had heard, the wildest stories were told. But the fact was that Kenji had lost. He was not allowed to lose this.

Kenji was very surprised when Prahsant was next to him. He hadn't read the flyers yesterday and was of the opinion that he was competing against another Bushi.
Many thoughts raced through his head. Prashant had the power of the spirits in his hands but would he use it?
Besides, if Kenji would go the way suggested, he would be at a disadvantage. Once again, the opposites met in him.
He took a deep breath in and out once more. He was a samurai, Prashant too. All that mattered was honor and Kenji would not risk his own.
Besides,... he trusted the Unicorn.

"Good morning, Prashant-san, I hope you've warmed up well beforehand, this course is really something," Kenji said to him after he had bowed quickly.

Prashant was a bit surprised to see who his opponent for the Obstacle course would be. He was fated to face friends and close associates time and again, it seems - the Horse riding event later would be no exception, although it was maybe no surprise that he would be facing another Unicorn there.

At any rate, facing those one liked was in many ways a blessing - although it did mean one of them would end up with less points. Thankfully, this event was one in which they could fare relatively well by doing their best regardless of winning or losing.

Before coming to the start of the obstacle course, he once again stopped for a quiet moment of meditation, closing his eyes, clasping his hands in a yin Yang gesture and focusing his elemental imbalances on his inner Water. He would not be calling the spirits for help, though, as he hadn't in the previous tests.

As he approached Kenji he bowed back to him, smiling. "Kakita-san, I'm happy to see you well. May we both do our best today! Ganbatte!", he said in a friendly, jovial tone before getting ready for the start.

He starts off with a strong rhythm, but ends up reaching the first obstacle exactly tied with Kenji.

Sprint 1:

After the first obstacle, Prash manages to pick up a good pace, exerting himself a bit while doing it.

Up for some RPing as we go, but posting the second sprint and obstacle already to move things along! I think posting the sprints alternating between us makes it more fun and exciting, what do you say? : )

Kenji stumbled a little after the bridge and saw the Unicorn practically running away from him and taking the next hurdle with ease.

Why? he thought. Why? Was this really Chen's punishment? Was he really so unprepared for this? What had he done to the gods?

Looking back quickly to see how much distance he's made on Kenji, the Unicorn sees the Crane looking a bit dispirited - maybe because of what happened the previous day, he thinks. But that wouldn't do!

As he keeps darting forward, he yells back to encourage him "Come on Kakita-san! Let's give this our best!! Ganbatte!!"

Kenji tried. Even when Prashant cheered him on, he tried harder, but it probably wasn't meant to be. He had done this damn obstacle course hundreds of times before. But he just didn't succeed today.

The wall turned out to be an almost insurmountable obstacle today, he slipped and fell to the ground, again, again and again. He could have gone around it, but in a defiant attempt to refuse his failure, he tried again and again until he managed to climb the wall, exhausted he prepared himself for the last sprint.

As they sprinted forward, Prash tires to do what he said and put more and more effort into the run, and as he does so he ends up stumbling a bit himself, slowing down a bit, and Kenji gets closer and closer to him.

As they approach the wall, though, Prash climbs it nimbly, leaving Kenji behind again. As he sees the Crane giving his all and finally overcoming the obstacle, he spurs them on again "Come on, Kakita-san, one final run, let's give it our best shot!"

And that he does - this time in a more controlled way than before, but still quite fast.

The last sprint was clearly won by Prashant. Tears of desperation started to form in Kenji's eyes, if it would go on like this, he would be the laughing stock of the crane.

He had to collect himself before he could look Prashant in the eyes. Luckily Kitsuki-Sensei had taught them well about this. Heavy breathing he turned to Prashant and bowed: "That was a good run" he said more neutral than it was usual for Kenji.

Prash takes some time adjusting his breathing after the run as well, and when Kenji is done with his and addresses him, he smiles warmly, nods in an encouraging way, and says in a good-natured, friendly tone that contrasts a bit with the Crane's.

"It was a good run, Kakita-san! We both have it given it our all and that matters much more than who crossed the finish line first! One or two falls are not enough to keep a brave one down, ne?"

"Hai, Kenji-san. May the Fortunes guide you and your mount", he says in a quieter, respectful tone, smiling and bowing to the Crane as well before he goes.
