'Wha' be the ship ye would go first?" He asks Setsuna, trying to be pragmatic. He points to himself, saying. "Gamblin' 'ouse looks fine t' me."

"It's always in the last place you look, isn't it?" Matsu Qiang asked rhetorically. "Why don't we check the last place first, so as to save time? So, you know, the village?"
The Lion boy frowned slightly. "Are you sure that's the best way? Sneaking doesn't sound very heroic. Maybe convincing would be okay."Kitsune Setsuna wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 5:45 am"Once there I could sneak or try convincing those there to give us access."

"I would prefer the temple, market, or village because we would stick out less than in the gambling den as a group of kids. This could be dangerous so our best bet would be to sneak or convince them so we don't have to resort to violence. It's good to conserve our strength anyway."Vutall wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 5:32 amThe ronin quickly brings up the rope and lays it down the other side of the wall, sliding down it to where she has 7 horses waiting. She mounts one and waits for all the students to follow suit.
"There are four potential locations we must investigate. The one we find that has evidence of ancient architecture will be the entrance to the underground tunnel leading into the city. One location is the courtyard behind the Dwindling Fortunes Gambling House, another is a carpenters shop in the market district, the third is a small guesthouse in the Temple of Shinsei, and the last is a storehouse in the heimen village just outside the city. I have no preference to which we visit first, but understand that each will have their own challenges to investigating them properly. Discuss among yourself and when a consensus is made, we shall go to the first location you choose. "
The students must pick a location to visit first and how they will approach the investigation, each location having different people they will need to interact with (Or avoid) to properly look for the ruins. The options are as follows:
First, players pick a location, second players pick an approach. Once one is picked, it will be removed from the next location choice
-Gambling House
-Temple
-Market
-Village
--Sneak (Stealth)
--Bribe (Temptation)
--Convince (Courtier)
--Threaten (Intimidate)
The location and method that has the most choices out of all 6 players will be selected.
Kazuko wrinkles her nose slightly at the mention of the gambling house, a bit flabbergasted that so many would choose the gambling house. Did her peers really want to see a bunch of people getting drunk and betting coin? She lets out an inward sigh, maybe her time with Nobuko is starting to influence her.

in the event of a tie, would prefer temple->market->village and convince->sneak

(Village and Convince win, removing both as options for later location and method determination.)
"Fine, it seems we have a majority consensus then. In the heimen village, there is a storehouse on the far western edge. If you just go prodding around, you are likely to draw much unwanted attention, so you should speak with the headman of the village, Hinata. Once you have his blessing, and he knows not to report your activity to the Governor, you'll be free to search the area without complications."
The ronin woman takes out her ancient scroll and looks over it a bit, reading the strange, unknown markings on it.
"What you are looking for is some sort of stone foundation that has an arrow set in it. Once you find it, note which direction it points. I'll keep watch while you search in case any trouble pops up."

Part 2: The Heimen Village
The students have decided to visit the village first, and are going to try to convince the heimen leader Hinata to allow them to conduct their search without reporting their activity to the governor, which in turn would get back to Agasha Sumiko. In order to do so, the entire party must do the following:
Each player will make a Courtier / Awareness roll and add their total to the groups pool. If after all rolls have been made the total score is divisible by 3 and the final total is a whole number, the group is able to convince the leader to allow them to conduct the search. If the final number is not divisible by 3 and the final total is a whole number, for every +1 it takes to have a number divisible by 3 and the final total is a whole number, each student will lose that many Dojo Points x3. (So for example, if the groups final total is 28, the next number that would be evenly divided by 3 is 30, or +2, so each student loses 6 dojo points.)
Regardless of if they pass or fail, the leader gives permission to the students (Failure means he turns them in anyway) and they may begin their search.
Each player must conduct the following rolls:
Investigation (Notice) / Perception, TN7 to find the ruins
Lore: Architecture / Intelligence, TN 6 to know that what they found is actually the ruins
Raw Strength, TN 5 to clear rubble away.
If the number of successes on each step is greater than the number of failures, the group succeeds at Part 2. If not, there will be an additional Part 2 scene.

Re: Event: Treasure Hunt
Upon meeting the governor, she gives a shallow bow, smiling widely in an attempt to bring him into a more suggestible mood.
"Hello Hinata-san. Our group would like to look at some ruins nearby and record some information about them. We request that you do not report to the governor about our activities because we are simply a team of students who want to go out and have some fun in your exciting village and reporting us would prevent any future students from learning more about this wondrous place. It would be good for students to learn about the culture here in person and could potentially increase the activity and trade, and in turn, the quality of life for the villagers. Also, we do not want to waste your valuable time and create unnecessary drama and confusion which would prevent you from focusing your efforts on improving the village so it is in both of our mutual interests for you to not tell anyone about this."
Kazuko would like to think that she had a large hand in convincing Hinata, although the other students may have helped a little. Whatever the case is, it's hard to deny that she had considerable influence over him.
After getting permission to conduct their searches without bother, Kazuko was able to quickly point out and identify the ruins they were told to spot, doubts about Keina and some of the other students still lingering in the back of her mind. Well, at least she knows one person here, and it's her favorite person too.
"Look! Over there! I think it's the ruins."
Unfortunately, there was much rubble in the way and Kazuko was too weak to clear much of it away so she just stays alert in case anything happens. She might be better with words than she is with brute force, but sometimes she wishes it was the opposite.

“Umm, yeah, let us look around, alright? We’re samurai, and it’s samurai business,” Matsu Qiang said to the villager, trying to sound impressive and important (but not very convincingly).
But once they secured permission, the Lion quickly spotted a suspicious trap door leading to a pit that had been filled in with stones.
“I bet it’s under here,” Qiang assured the others, as he began to move the stones.

Kitsune Setsuna would step forth again and bow neatly to the one known as Hinata. "Hinata-san. We would humbly request access to the village that you overkeep, in order to further our studies." After all, it was still daytime and they were with the ronin somewhere. "On my honor, we shall do our best to not disturb your people or make a mess. Please do not report us to the Governor, and we shall be on our way very shortly."
He seemed convincing enough, even throwing in a light smile and doing his best to turn up the charm, though it seemed the Kakita led the way in that regard. However for the next trick, they had to find a stone foundation with an arrow set in it. The Kitsune spent a lot of time getting close to a bunch of suspiciously square foundations, but none had the arrow in it. Although it seemed someone would find it, and he would scurry off to not be too far from the group.
With some strange ruins found, he chipped in and confirmed to the others that this definitely had to be it, the architecture was just the right age for what they were looking for. Just supporting what the Matsu and the Kakita said. And upon approaching it and seeing the rubble, he would without hesitation dig in and begin pulling rocks away. His hands were rough, but before this school he might not have been strong enough to lift such heavy things. To his delight it was easier than he imagined.

Kenji was impressed how convincing Kazuko and Setsuna were. Then he realized something, wasn't Setsuna also from the fox clan? He seemed at least calmer and more polite than Zashi, a plus if you ask Kenji.
"Anyway, it would be very nice if you would cooperate with us," Kenji added to the discussion.
After that the young samurai searched for the ruin, but Kenji was unsure if they had found the right one. Luckily, there were better educated people there than he was and he trusted Kazukos judgment.
But what Kenji didn't have in his head, he luckily had in his arms. The rubble was no match for him.

For all his talk of not talking Ichiro is surprisingly persuasive. He just hopes that it does not clash too badly with the contributions of the others.
As the others make their deductions the young Utaku compares the information to ensure they are, indeed, on the right track then quickly and easily shoves the rubble out of the way.

((Posting next part to help speed this along))
After the students spend some time searching through the village and speaking with its leader, they are able to find the storehouse the Ronin mentioned. It clearly was built atop a stone foundation much older than the building itself, and after some time they find what looks to be like a hole in the ground, covered with years of building materials that had been placed on top of it. Using their physical talent, they clear out the material and rubble, which reveals an entrance to what some could mistake for a forgotten root cellar. Inside the cellar is an unnaturally smooth room, and in the center of it is a stone dias, the center of which has odd symbols etched into it. One looks somewhat like an arrow pointing to the northwest.
Returning to their expedition leader, she listens to what they found and nods at their description of it all, taking out a piece of parchment that looks like a map and marking on it with some coal.
"That leaves the gambling house, temple, and market."

- The Kitsune folded his hands into his sleeves. Someone was going to have to say the uncomfortable bit, after all. "And a market is a place of commerce; it would be most fitting to try..." he made a face of distate, "...bribery, there. We should do it in that order then as well. Everyone on board?"
Hoo boy sneaking onto the temple grounds. That was going to be interesting... But what was this about thugs? He wanted to ask more, looking at the pretty Unicorn who was definitely not a Battle Maiden and cocking his head but would save it for when they weren't risking expulsion.

Re: Event: Treasure Hunt
Kazuko is clearly displeased at the mention of the violence so soon, especially against a bunch of drunks and thugs. There was no honor to be gained there. She has heard about the attack on the dojo but lacked the details. What motive would a gambling den have against a bunch of kids anyway? Shouldn't they be looking to collect their dues rather than fail to beat up a handful of students? Bribery wasn't any better, perhaps even worse than violence in a way.
"How do you know it was the gambling house that sent the thugs? Still, I would prefer to resort to violence as a last alternative so I second Kenji for sneaking into the temple. We don't know what other difficulties we may run into and should conserve our strength."

Re: Event: Treasure Hunt
"I'm sure we could outfight the gamblers if we had to," Qiang said thoughtfully. "After all, we're trained samurai! Or, well, samurai-in-training, anyway."
"I agree that it's better if we aren't seen by the monks, though. Some of them were helping give tests, we'd get caught for sure if they recognize us."

Re: Event: Treasure Hunt
Kokyou scent for treasure hunting was famed. He convinced the woman with a mere glance and found out where to go. He stood in front of the building, pointing towards it as a hunting dog. In silence.
When the others join up, he chuckles. He already had discovered the entrance, but didn't want to ruin the fun, So he covered it again so the crew could uncover it and think they were doing a good job. That's a Captain's duty, after all: to keep the crew's morale up.
Looking at the map, he says it again. "We shall go t' the Gamblin' 'ouse, mateys."
