"Again with the events that aren't for the shugenja?" Zashi sighs, knowing full well that there is Lore lesson later...that they feel equally unready for.

"Kyah!" Zashi does their best to repeat the form from the first day, and is surprised to have a proper strike in place. When it comes to an improvises weapon pulls the rug from out his opponent...literally. Down for the count, Zashi binds his partner with the rug, trying to hide the laughter under the circumstances.

Finally, Zashi prepares for wrestling, getting into a low stance...which hilariously meant that his opponent couldn't get leverage. With a center of mass so slow, it is pretty much just instinct to flip Zashi's partner to a hilarious degree.

"Huh...maybe I should have been a bushi."

Tanshin felt a bit fatigued from the additional excercise he did earlier ion the day.
His limbered muscles seemed to respond to the adversity, allowing him to progress through the lessons without too much difficulty.

Only towards the end of the lessons with grappling did he feel the need to dig deep within himself.

Kaidan didn't want to put much effort on this event. He would like to learn how to grapple but really test him on this.

The rain could not distract Kazuko from her growling stomach. Despite gorging on a breakfast of mostly rice and fruits (and a reluctant helping of vegetables), it did surprisingly little to sate her this morning, sorely wishing for some fish or eggs. She would've requested more rice but she felt it rude to beg for more than she was given, not to mention that no one else is complaining about the meals. She's almost glad to practice her Jujitsu on the ashigaru, but a cry erupting from her stomach distracts her enough to make her swing only graze him. Blushing, she hopes that no one heard that over the rain. Surely they must all be concentrating on their own sparring too? Redirecting her attention to the ashigaru, she picks up a chair leg soggy from the rain and strikes him before throwing it aside and switching to a grapple while he was still off balance. Her quick reflexes make it easy for her to put the ashigaru into a submission hold, her uniform being soaked even more than before thanks to the rainwater pooling steadily inside the ring. Great. Now she's freezing and hungry. Shivering slightly, she bows to her opponent before jogging to find shelter and possibly food.

Wyn is very nervous, having been caught by Hida-Sama teaching Jiujitsu earlier in the week, he puts everything into attempting to impress the sensei.
His basic Martial Arts kata do well, with little problem.
Moving to Improvised Weapons he leans into it, spending his reserves to make sure he does not look foolish in front of Sensei
Finally when it comes to grappling, he does everything he can, to make sure Sensei notices his extra effort, to the point of putting his honor on the line.
While he does very well, Hida- Sensei does not even give him a second look.

Unlike other of his colleagues at the Iuchi dojo, Prash had received some training in jiujutsu - It was another of the things in which he tried to do well to follow in the footsteps of his mother. Doing particularly well on this training was not particularly expected of shugenja - but he was determined to do so.

His first kata was perfect. He remembered every word and movement his sensei had taught him at home, moving seamlessly from stance to stance, and finishing with a perfect change from a standing position to a forward hop and a jumping kick that hit the wooden board held by the assistant and broke it right down the middle. Prash's eyes were serious, his mind set on the event, but he felt really happy with his performance.

The second exercise was not as perfectly executed as the first, but he still found his way through the various objects positioned around the room, and used them without a problem in all the demonstrations needed. Still very good showing, all in all, and he felt really confident going to the third test.

As he came to the final part of the training, though, his confidence got the best of him. After some time shifting his weight and trying to throw his opponent off-balance, he advanced, trying to do a fairly complicated throw his sensei had showed him just once... and did so carelessly, grabbing his opponent in an awkward position, losing his own balance and getting thrown down himself, with a loud 'thud'.

He was certain he could pull this off perfectly! He hadn't felt so frustrated in a long time... and for any standing close to him, it showed. His usual easy smile replaced with a distorted, angry face as he glared towards the ceiling and yelled a "Kuso!!!" that probably surprised some of his fellow students.

He took a deep breath, then another. That was no way to deal with frustration and failure. He knew that well, and yet let it get the better of him. That was not becoming of a samurai. That was not becoming of the child of Iuchi Eprete. Her name meant "Resolute", not "Frustrated". His meant "Calm", not "Childish". His own sense of honour took a blow. That would not do.

He had much to learn,

Kai proved surprisingly competent at this hand to hand thing!

At the onset, anyway. Sure, they were able to demonstrate good striking ability and their quick-thinking allowed them to readily have a weapon to hand.

All this was underscored by the anguished "AUGH!" Kai let out after being bodily thrown from the ring by her opponent during the grappling section. A shame, too. Kai almost had them...

[Catch up rolls for this event, at GM request]

After trading a few punches, Matsu Qiang seized a ladder from the pile of junk and shouted, “FOR HONOR!” The young Lion smashed his opponent with the ladder, hard; then spinning the ladder around, got his opponent’s head locked between two rungs. Qiang pushed down, hard, and his trapped opponent lost his balance, falling to the ground.

Sanzo thought back to his lesson of the previous day. He had certainly learned a lot! Now for a more practical application of what he had learned!

His ability to strike and grapple were apparently quite good. And while his ability to swing a chair was good too, even managing to throw in a little flourish, it was certainly less good than the other two tests.
