[Matsu Qiang]

With the rising tensions between the Lion and Crane clans, Kakita Toshimoko was not only a famous dueling teacher, but also a potential enemy. Matsu Qiang vowed not to be shamed in front of the Crane swordsmaster.

Stepping onto the sands, the young Lion bowed with perfect courtesy, before entering an elegant dueling stance. After a moment of intense focus, Qiang’s bokken flew from his side and struck the target dummy like lightning, and yet with great precision. The strike was so perfect that the rolled tatami mats that made up the target were cut, despite the dull edge of Qiang’s wooden sword.

[Kakita Kenji]

Kenji did not disappoint the Grey Crane, the performance Kenji gave was enormous, but it was just not good enough to satisfy him.

He could read his opponent like a book, he was one with the world and his stroke was like a brushstroke on a canvas. But Kenji could not internalize it. Not feel it and breathe it. His technique was good, but not good enough for him. Kenji wanted to show more, show that he was better than the rest, but he couldn't.

With mixed feelings Kenji left the field. Until Topaz, he had to learn a lot more.

She'd been practicing with other students here and there throughout their training, but had not expected to be showing her skills before such a renowned duelist. Even watching each of her clanmates perform so well, her nerves rattled. Surprisingly, she found that she settled into the focus of the duel with much greater ease than expected. Everything just clicked better than it had before. Her form wasn't perfect, but it was adequate and found the target as she intended. More than most of the competitions so far, she finished this one feeling proud of her accomplishments.
