Dao was taking notes as the lecture went on. If he was going to be come a great general with armies at his beck and call, he had best know how to notice things on the battlefield and in life in general.

Observation is key, he thought to himself.

Mai wasn't taking notes, but she was mentally comparing it to what she had learned before.

[Kakita Kazuko]

Initially paying rapt attention to the sensei, Kazuko grows more and more distracted with every new student that enters. Well, observing others is part of this lesson, right?

[Asako Saburo]

There were indeed a wide assortment of students, which had been Saburo's own assessment. He'd had suspicions that the Kitsuki had wanted to continue lessons to some extent or another. So, he bowed to each as they emerged, but kept his attention on the paper, recording notes each time. It was an invaluable thing, to study a more or less detached assessment of different approaches, without intentional clan biases.

The lecture comes to and end and the sensei bows to everyone.

"Does anyone have questions on what we have covered?"

"How does one juggle the duty to find out whatever information they can to help their lord and how a samurai should not do dishonorable things like eavesdrop on a conversation?"

"I have heard Kitsuki techniques for investigation are different than others. You don't use use testimony. How do you figure things out then?"

“We still use testimony, though we delve much deeper into the collection of it. Additionally we look at other evidence such as scraps of clothing left at a crime, bloodstains, money trails, if a person was somewhere else at the time of the accusation, and more. It is very in depth”

[Kaito Haruki]

"I thought that would be standard procedure for solving crimes, why isn't that exactly. I know it was made by esteemed ancestors, but I want to be able to follow the logic of the wise."

[Matsu Qiang]

Matsu Qiang stayed silent during the question period, but his eyes were alert, looking at the other students and trying to use the Kitsuki's lessons to guess which student would ask a question next based on their body language. His guess was wrong half the time.... but he thought he was getting better.

"Per Imperial Decree, only direct testimony is accepted, and even then if someone of higher station says something different than someone of lower station, the higher station is the one who is by default the one in the right. This is why duels exist, so those lower can prove their innocents by the will of heaven."

[Doji Sakura]

Sakura kept herself awake, listening but not asking questions. She didn't really have anything to ask.
