He settled himself in position, and when he took hold, he grunted, knowing the outcome immediately. Sanzo's stance was a little too high as he came in, so the leverage was easier to gain. He pushed, not throwing this time but just moving forward to draw him to the edge and just past the lip of the circle. A grunt and he looked down.

"Athletics... hand to hand... defense. A priest does not carry a weapon often, he would say, but they must be prepared." And with another push, Sanzo was outside and he bowed again. "Lower your center a little. It will be harder next time... but I think perhaps we should wait for them. Good effort."

"Come now, Moto-san, I was told the Moto were the strongest warriors in all the land! Surely you won't allow this stout old Hida to best you!"

Ichiro grit his teeth he grabbed the larger Hida's arms and pried them off him for the most part but wasn't good enough to fully break his grip. It was a stalemate but Ichiro's eyes burned with determination as he looked up at the large Hida.

Meeting the burning eyes with a jovial smile, the Hida grunted a little at his efforts.

Ichiro felt the crab basically let go and shoved him out of the circle breathing hard "don't go easy on me just because you're stronger than me! If you can throw me out of the circle than do it, no point in winning this way." He said with the same fire in his eyes "One day ill beat you for real."

And at that, he lunges and swings a punch straight into the Moto's gut.

Ichiro takes the blow defiantly, well as defiantly as one can when all the wind is knocked out of them and they are left gasping for breath. He says nothing as he falls to one knee, he just glares up at the Hida while he tries to catch air in his lungs.

Goroharu looks to the other students.

"Where did Moto-san go wrong?"

[Kakita Kenji]

"I am not an expert Hida-Sensei, but if I may express my opinion: Moto-San gave up grappling and did not try to gain control over the grappling to throw you out of the ring. Your words at the beginning of the lesson were: Using only your hands, remove your opponent from the ring without exiting it yourself!" Kenji said with a bow.

He looks to the others for an answer

[Asako Sanzo]

"He did not realize his own limitations and attempted to challenge an opponent of much greater skill. I think the expression is: he bit off more than he could chew." Mimicing Kenji, Sanzo offers a bow.

[Kuni Yotsuo]

Yotsuo wondered about that for a moment. "He provoked an opponent instead of trying to defeat them?"

[Asako Saburo]

Saburo shook his head. "The challenge was offered, cousin, and he is here as we are to better himself. The task put before him was to break free. He broke free, but when the match is done it is fit for the opponents to bow in thanks and honor to each other."

"Both wise answers, but also incorrect in this particular case."

"Perhaps rephrasing the question would help. Why did Moto-san get hit?"

[Kuni Yotsuo]

"Because he didn't dodge?" The Kuni replied.

[Kakita Kenji]

"He tried not to dodge?"

[Asako Saburo]

Because he opened his fool mouth and insulted...

"Because he did not attempt to dodge the blow." Saburo said in concord with the others. No need to antagonize the Moto further.

"That is partly correct. Moto-san got hit because he let his guard down after he won the initial contest. When you are fighting an opponent, you must always be prepared, even if it seems you have initially won."

[Kaiu Aiichiro]

He noticed a lot of noise coming through some shojis, and his curiosity got the best out of him. Sliding it aside, Aiichiro looked in and saw many students alongside a sensei.
Oh, right, a sensei.
He bowed.
