Jiro frowned slightly at Kaidan, not wanting to tip their hand entirely just yet. If he asked for it, that's fine, but Jiro wasn't going to pressure him.

"Perhaps not, you make a fair point, Ronin-san. I respect your professionalism. I wonder, seeing as you have demonstrated some real skill in these matters, and we are such neophytes, whether...you could tell us how one usually gets hired for a job like this. I mean, we found you through the rumor mill, but is your name widely known among the upper orders? This business often seems like it's webs within webs."

"Funny saying. Where'd you hear that?"

The ronin's hand disappears into his kimono.

Jiro smiled. At last

"Is it familiar to you?"

The ronin says nothing and stands up.

"I think I'll be going now"

Jiro said quietly. "Restrain him, please."

((Ill allow a surprise grapple roll, but if you do, it will then go to a combat if he isn't grappled))

[Akodo Kichiro]

Right on Jiro's que, Kichiro swiftly slides behind the ronin. In one fluid motion he grabs hold of him and attempts to flip then restrain him against the ground.

The ronin is slippery. Despite the Akodo's takedown, the man escapes the grapple and draws something from his pocket, throwing it on the ground. A Bright white flash erupts in the room, a scent of sulfur and smoke filling the small surface.

Everyone in the thread is considered Blind while they are in the smoke and Dazed for 5 rounds.

c Blinded – A character who has been struck blind or who suffers from the Blind Disadvantage suffers a penalty of -3k3 to all ranged attack rolls and -1k1 to melee attack rolls. A blind character’s base Armor TN is equal to his Refl exes Trait plus 5 (armor adds bonuses as normal). The character’s Water Ring is considered two ranks lower for the purposes of determining how far he can move as part of a Move Action. Any attempt at a Simple Move Action requires an Athletics/Agility roll (TN 20) or the character is knocked Prone.

c Dazed – A character who has been dazed suffers a penalty of -3k0 to all actions. Dazed characters can only use the Defense and Full Defense Stances and cannot perform an Iaijutsu duel. The character may recover from this Status Effect by making a successful Earth Ring Roll versus a TN of 20 during the Reaction Stage. The target may attempt this roll once each Round, and the TN decreases by 5 each time he fails the roll

Jiro may have cursed out loud at the flash...and in a slightly high-pitched voice. But he'd deny it if you asked him.

He heaved himself through the flash to where the door was, trying to block it with his body, his hands held in a defensive posture.

Meanwhile, he tried to shake the light-induced cobwebs from his head, to little success.

The ronin curses in frustration, moving toward the door an opening it, but finding his way blocked by Jiro.The heavy smoke does not budge despite the door opening, still clouding all sight in the room.

His stance unsteady, Kichiro can't shake off this blinding cloud. He remains at Jiro's side and defends the exit.

Kaidan finally snapped out of it. Still the smoke made it difficult to see. Still kept defending the window.

Kaidan now out of the daze. Still used his female voice noting his clothing. "Akodo kun take the window. Bauyshi san... let's dance." Kaidan moved to the door next to his brother. "May I borrow your sword?" He whispered to Jiro.
