Sasaiko kneels down into seiza as she approaches the marked contest area, and she bows from it to the center of that area before moving into it in shikko and turning to execute the formal zarei to the judges. Turning again, she repeats the gesture towards her opponent before rising--right knee, then left knee--and gathering up the bokken she will be using for the demonstration and the event.

She lifts it with a flourish, hands sure upon it as she moves through a brief kata; it is clear that she has trained with swords, even if she is not a bushi. And then she adopts a common chudan stance, waiting for the contest to begin.
