The New Winds

Mirai usually woke up with the dawn, but the bright light that woke her up seemed too bright for that. Had she slept in? When she sat up, it seemed it was neither dawn, nor later. Still, the light seemed to persist, so she got up and dressed herself. Something compelled her to go down to one of the private rooms, to which she seemed to be the only one there. It was all so strange...

Suddenly, Mirai finds herself in a room sitting on a cushion, a tea set before her and a man in Crane colors.

"Hello, wolf-san. Could you please perform the ceremony?"

Mirai blinked. She had sworn... no, this was clearly either the realm of dreams, or some sort of distasteful magical moment. She wanted nothing more than to just close her eyes again and fall back asleep, but she hadn't gotten to where she was by playing at stubborn pride.

Without a word, or even a flicker of her On, Mirai went right to it. It wasn't a bad tea ceremony, though hardly perfect.

The man nods in silence and then takes a sip with both hands, savoring the scent and warmth before taking a sip.

“Impressive for one with your history. Though that may just be because of the House of the Red Lotus’s blend here. I have a task for you, Wolf-San”

Mirai let out a small breath. Like many things, she'd read and practiced far more than actually performed, so she was glad to hear she did well. She merely nodded at the man's request, remaining politely silent.

“A young man, who if he is not careful will find himself in your shoes. His name is Hitoshi. You need to ensure he passes his gempuku here.”

Her head nodded just a bit. "How?"

"That is up to you to figure out and decide. I cannot walk your path for you. Only set it down so you can see"

Another nod. "It should still seem he prevailed on his own? And what clan and family is he of?"

"Indeed. He is of the Mantis. "

So many questions flew through Mirai's head... but her life had always made her more cautious than curious, so she voiced none of the truly important ones. "Does he know of my... assistance?"

And then with that, another bright flash of light and the ronin finds herself back in her room, with no hint of the man or the events that transpired save for a solitary tea pot, still warm with fresh tea

Mirai looked around, pinching herself to make certain she was there and awake this time for certain. Finally she sighed and lay back, pulling her covers up over her head and grumbled. "Damned spirits... guess I don't have much of a choice though..."
