he's a bit whiny but like he's kinda brought up that way so he really isnt as bad as he could be (imagine a karen as emperor xD)

he's also has a point and just wants some friends and his brother's affection which he isn't getting for various reasons

He wants some friends but he's going about it in the way of demanding friendship.

This isn't the way a normal person or even an emperor is supposed to act. An emperor has no friends: there are only interests of the empire. It's lonely at the top, but that's the price you pay for being the son of heaven with all the perks and benefits that come with that title.

Sotorii was badly tutored in this regard.

eh i find that unlikely tho

I feel for him he may be crown prince but he is just a child, pre gempukku so i assume oldest maybe 13? it is lonely at the top but that is a lesson he hasn't learned yet for now he is a child who doesn't know why his brother hates him, he's lonely, with no friends. He is right even an Emperor needs friends, even the most powerful among us is only human and craves human connection. He is misguided and going about things the wrong way but I still feel for the kid.

Sotorii does suck. But that's kind of why I want him to win. It's a little too early for him to get that type of comeuppance. Let him win, grow arrogant, and then get torn down.

Khamric tie would be indeed interesting

In this scene, Sotorii wants to join the fun, and Daisetsu sounds jealous and unwilling to have his brother in a game. Quite egoistical.

Honestly it sounds like Sotorii made a slightly unreasonable request, and his brother responded by over reacting/mouthing off in such away that Sotorii felt highly insulted, if another adult treated him that way, especially as the son of the son of heaven he would be completely in his rights to do what he did. But the person who did it was a pre-gempukku child so Sotorii should/could not actually challenge him over it. His brother knew this and was using the protection of being pre-gempukku as a shield against his consequences, and then was shocked when those consequences came anyway. The Bayushi is the one truly getting screwed here because he was /forced/ to protect the child as his second, whether he wanted to or not.


That's my hot take.

Both Sotorii and Daisetsu are pre-gempukku.

Well if your pre gempukku no one should be dueling, your not supposed to even touch a Katana except during training. Honestly then the Scorpion is in the wrong for accepting the challenge and not laughing it off.

Well. They do have a huge status attached to them as Hantei. So, rules are not the same for them.

I'm all for a Kharmic strike on this one...
