Who does the Crab clan seek out for koku to help with their war effort without having much to offer other than the reliance of clans recognizing the importance of the Crabs duty?

Ok I kind of want it to be Ronin just for the idea of some massively wealthy benefactor swooping in out of nowhere. Certainly with no sinister intentions....

That would be laughably fun.
Mixing with the Crane probably will anger even more the Lion, mixing with the Lion probably will make them even more demanding. Asking the Dragon for koku makes no sense.
Phoenix/Unicorn/Mantis/Scorpion/Minor Clans would be my primary bets. Minor Clans I still need to see which ones exist on NuL5r
Imperial the second one, and the most logical one. You know.
Rōnin is my favourite but relying on it alone is bad.
Can we merge the Mantis and the Yasuki already?

True, true. There is that.
But there is also that the Phoenix never denied the Crab a thing. Scorpion are the closest neighbors but a Crab blackmail isn't a lot. Unicorn perhaps if pinky promise something something Moto White Guard. Mantis will lead to a good plot. Rōnin too. And a lot of minor clans as far I know are linked to the Crab in some way.
Imperials is always the safe bet. Like, literally we need this money to defend you.
I'm very much leaning Phoenix/Mantis/Rōnin/Minor now.

Imperials surely wouldn't mind subsidising the important work of Hida's kiddos.

The Crab seek out help from both the Imperial Families and the Mantis. Unfortunately, the Mantis having little in actual Koku are unable to provide monetary assistance, but do commit to sending aid in the form of goods, equipment, and bodies. The Imperials ease taxes on the Crab in response to their request, but do not provide any koku. ((Mantis and Crab players may purchase a Bond for 1 less xp. Imperial and Crab players may purchase a Bond for 1 less XP.))
