The New Winds

Sanzo sought out Kitsuki sensei; he had heard of her family's investigatory skills and hoped for any additional insight on the subject. If he was to become a magistrate or yojimbo, he would need to be well-trained in such abilities.

"Hello, Asako-san. You wished to learn about the methods the Kitsuki use?"

"Yes, please, Kitsuki-sensei. I have heard of your family's famed ability to notice things others wouldn't even think to look for, to see through lies and trickery. Even just a simple understanding of the Kitsuki's methods would help me greatly if I'm to serve as a yojimbo or magistrate."

Very well, let's begin then..."

She launches into an in depth lecture about the Kitsuki method.

Sanzo nods along, trying to absorb as much of the strange methods and practices as possible. He tries to grasp as much as he can about the wide range of topics at hand, everything from gathering evidence to spotting untruths.

When he lecture finishes, she asks

"Do you have any questions?"

"Hmmm, well I can think of one: what is the best way to have other samurai accept your findings using these unorthodox methods? Such practices aren't very common around the Empire, right?"

"You can't, truth be told. It is almost universally used in Dragon lands, but outside, no one else accepts it. It goes against what the Empire believes after all."

"Hmmm... sounds almost like how the testimony of spirits isn't admissible, either. I suppose I'll just have to be really sincere about anything I find using these methods and maybe skip over the how."

"That is certainly a good way to do it. But remember, Asako-san. In the Empire, only DIRECT testimony is allowed. It has to be either from the person accused, or someone who saw them."

"Hm? Ah, yes, it is as you say." He silently wandered if he'd ever be able to use these methods. Maybe for information gathering purposes and whatnot, though, as Kitsuki sense points out, not for purposes of direct accusation.

"Thank you, Kitsuki-sensei. You've given me a lot to think about."

"Certainly, Asako-san. Anytime."
