Zashi thought he had a solid argument, but the Scorpion aren't having it, making him wilt under the pressure.

[Iuchi Prashant]

Prashant knew the arts of the Court were something he had received barely any training in. But he knew his path, he believed he knew something that would be to his clans' needs, and he felt he knew what he must do.

He delivered a long argument heavily based on the Tao, with some elements of Tegensai thinking and more traditional Rokugani courtly displays. What the Scorpion should grant the Unicorn?

Respect.

His rebuttal of another student's argument was similarly able. His conviction when argued by the last official was appropriate, even if less moving than his argument and rebuttal proper - it was almost if, for Prash, the request was so rightfully honest that he barely should need to demonstrate that proper.

In the end, it was another very good performance of the Unicorn student - but once again, not good enough to raise the interest of any of the Sensei.

Kazuko is curious as to why the Scorpion senseis wish to know their desires from the Scorpion clan. It seems a bit suspicious to her, especially with Doji sensei so conveniently distracted, but Agasha-sama must have chosen them for a reason. She's still careful to try and not speak about any sensitive subjects and opts to argue for more neutral topics such as the benefits of increased trading and potential alliances. She seems convicted enough in her beliefs at least as one of the Scorpion senseis seems to take a liking to her.

[Utaku Nesrin]

This was not a task Nesrin expected to shine in, though eliminating the actual courtiers from the room may have skewed the curve a bit.

She did not think the sensei were asking for serious requests from the clans by asking children still in training, but she didn't want to ask for something ridiculous, like ponies for everyone, just as a fun argument. So she split the difference, asking for more Unicorn protagonists in the fantastic plays that emerged from Scorpion provinces. There was a wealth of stories to be found in their long journey beyond the Empire's boundaries, inspiration for a generation of plays. She found that she was actually quite excited about the idea as she described it.

She didn't really want to pick apart anyone else's arguments too harshly, but apparently choosing one and stating simply that the request really didn't fit the Scorpion's role in the Empire, seemed to go over exceptionally well. It was a lesson in brevity.

[Togashi Dao]

Debate? Ick Dao thought to himself, not daring to express such thoughts in front of the sensei themselves of course. He had never been much of a social butterfly, still burdened with the feeling that he was so much less than the other students.

His initial position was shaky, his nerves almost getting the better of him as he debated the importance of the peasantry in the social order.
He almost lost his cool when his opponent said they were little better than draft animals.
But his sincerity shone through at the end and he was granted a passing grade.

[Kaito Kai]

The shrine keeper proved to be surprisingly adroit with words. Having been chastised by the mound of dirt earlier in the day, Kai's focus on outlasting while speaking was noteworthy - almost a filibuster, really.

They, blessedly, did not outdo themselves so thoroughly in other parts of the training but towards the end of things, Kai did begin eyeing the tea the properly courtier-trained students to address a parched throat.
