The New Winds

Haruki did his best to ignore the rumor about him; he really did! At the end of the day though, being called a bully is antithetical to what he sees himself as. So even if he wouldn't directly confront the one who spread it, he would like to know why they did it. Most of the students should be in the mess hall for dinner; it's right after the afternoon training and when everyone should be hungry. Now to look like he's not looking while he's looking around.

As Haruki tries to track down the rumor, he finds himself getting different answers from each of the servants he speaks to.

In the course of events, Bayushi Jiro, the other student much maligned in today's rumors, was engaging in a similar effort to find their source.

Jiro is able to find a few answers from the servants.

Frowning at the reply he receives, Jiro takes a seat in the mess hall to brood on a proper response.

Jiro-San is searching too, better not draw attention and just eat for now. I'll see how he moves while eating with other students. Maybe I can find Sanzo-San and offer him so guidance too. Would be nice if we can say our Clan's average grade was higher than anyone else's.

For his part, Jiro continued to brood in silence, just a hint of a pout forming on his pretty face. Someone was in for it, but Jiro was giving no outward signs of who it might be.

That sort of pouty face probably means he's taking these rumors personally. Did he believe the rumors make him appear weak? Is that why he did so poorly in training today? I won't confront whoever spread the rumor, but I'll make sure nothing bad happens to them either. Better eat my fish while it's still fresh while I can.

Another Bayushi Jiro made his way to the hall. He was serious yet a hit of sadness glimmered in his eyes.

Great, another Jiro, through logic, one of these must be a fake. Unfortunately I can't tell which one, so I'll just ignore it for now. I still have some rice anyway. Everyone else is minding their own business anyway.

Jiro looked up and saw himself and a smile began to form on his lips. He signaled to himself to come sit by him. He had much to talk about...with himself.

As if it was something common, Bayushi Jiro 2 walked over to himself. He took a seat beside 'himself' and smiled. "How are you?" He whispered to Bayushi Jiro 1.

Jiro's mouth turned down slightly. "I am well...for the most part. Some poisoned tongue is making insinuations about me, but I am unsure what to do about it. How has the day treated you?"

Bayushi Jiro 2 pursed his lips at hearing the news. "Perhaps the small snake is unaware about how hard we work." He nodded. "I am doing well." He looked at Jiro 1 and gave him a wink. "We look better when we smile. Perhaps I can help you with the snake."

"That would be much appreciated. I find that we work much more effectively when we work as one." Jiro smirked. "We should be loath to make an accusation, but I was just told that it was the Miya that bore the message to the servant who told it to us."

Bayushi Jiro 2 nodded. "Indeed... we are better together." He gave it some thought. "Why would a Miya deliver such foul words?" Bayushi Jiro 2 started wondering. "We shouldn't make enemies in this place."

"We are sure they thought they were doing what is right. We have a reputation, in spite of our best efforts." He sighed. "'Oh, the Scorpion is doing well, they must have done something terrible to someone!' When will people understand that sometimes we earn our success with merit?"

They probably know who spread the rumor, now to approach and ask them for information as politely as possible.

Jiro turns and greets the Kaito as politely as they can. Assuming that the previous post was also Haruki asking for the information, they were happy to provide it. "We were told that Miya Wyn passed the rumor to Otomo Nobuko in the hearing of this servant. We're not sure if she was the original creator of the rumor or not...but it is possible. They showed they had a sharp tongue at the courtier lessons yesterday."

"I know there were several rumors today, which one were we talking about so we are on the same page?"
