Sasaiko stills the laugh and regards the Asako.

She bows.

"If I have offended, Asako-san, I apologize for it. Such was not my intent, of course. But I do appreciate your mordant wit, truly."

[Asako Saburo]

He sighed and tried to offer a small smile. It failed miserably, mostly because it was readily apparent how rarely the lad smiled, so it came out a bit ... awkward looking. "Do not fret. I am not offended. I just... have been told in the past that I am funny without intending to be. Something about being the ... what was it sister once called me?" He reached up and tapped his lips before nodding. "I am the 'straight man' of the gag, she said? Yes. That was the term." No shit, sherlock.

A shrug. "But I am pleased that my wit does not cause displeasure."

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"Rather the opposite."

She smiles more fully.

"I hope to have the opportunity to hear more of that wit, Asako-san. But for now, I believe the hour is ending."

[Asako Saburo]

"Yes, and I do not wish to be late for our lesson. Thank you for tea and I wish you fortune in the coming examinations," he said, bowing to her formally and rising to depart. As he did, his mind tried to parse how it was that he could apparently make a young woman laugh. That was ... new.

"Carry the Fortunes," she says as she returns the bow.
