The rain pitter pattered on the wooden roof as Kitsune Setsuna sat on the engawa just outside one of the buildings; likely the barracks. In his hands were a pair of bowls, one full of rice and topped with steamed vegetables, the other full of fresh fruits. To his delight, they'd had peaches and strawberries, probably his favorite among all the fruits. He would sit in a simple cross legged position and stare out across the ground. A small murmur of thanks for the meal and then his glossy chopsticks would dig into the rice and vegetables before they would get cold.
Ronyan popped out of his kimono chest and mrowed.
"No, they did not have meat today, Ronyan." He waited until his mouth was clear to speak, of course. The cat of course, didn't understand him, but hopped out, narrowly missing his bowl. A sniff sniff; she did not approve of the rain, her tail straightening upwards and curling at the end the largest signifier of her displeasure. "You are a guest here, like me. Be on your best behavior, this is not the streets of Otosan Uchi." The food would be rapidly gulped down until nothing remained in the rice bowl but a few stray grains. The steamed broccoli in particular had been so succulent, he was almost regretful when it was gone. The bowl of fruit was at his side, awaiting until it was time.
Another mrow, and the Kitsune swiveled his head to look at what the grey cat was up to. She was chasing... something. A small sinking sensation in his heart as he could hear her target. A mouse. Distressing, but that was simply the way of the animals, the way of nature. A large bite of peach, and his hands fell into his lap, craddling the juicy fruit. "The empty mind is the free mind. Free of doubt, fear, and worldliness." A large exhale, and he began to focus on the emptiness. The white noise of the rain helped. The surly bonds of the earth began to loosen on him, and all around him was nothing but white. The muscles in his body began to relax and loosen--
A sensation of claws in his back immediately jerked him back to earth most violently. He let out a sharp cry and reached upwards over his back, but Ronyan had already hopped away and landed. "Ashhhhh," he hissed, arms just barely able to rub upon the parts of him that she had sank her claws into. "Ronyan! That hurt a lot!"
The grey cat did not seem to care, as she had landed upon her prey. Setsuna closed his eyes and waited until he couldn't hear it anymore, and turned away at the crunching noise. His peach had rolled away in the commotion and he stared at it sadly, picking it up. "Ahh. Oh well. I hope your breakfast was delicious as mine was." He raised his arm and tossed the peach, aiming for some bushes. If it'd landed on its soft skin, perhaps it could have been salvaged but there was too much dirt for him to want to continue. At least he had strawberries. "You are not permitted to come with me to class, by the way. Especially if you will attack me. Or other students."
Ronyan simply rolled over and exposed her belly, and he patted it once. "Watch out for the frogs. It is said they are poisonous."
With that, he stood up and stretched. His breakfast strawberries could be finished on the way to the bath house where he would need to clean up anyways after a morning spent cleaning and cat fighting. Tomorrow perhaps he would try meditating again. Only time would tell.Meditation / Void, no reason
