Spirituality Training (Mandatory Event)

As Prashant comes for the Spirituality training, he walks towards Asako-sensei to talk to her. He was particularly interested in Theology, especially Taoism, and he felt he would benefit more from more training on that as he would in Divination - he would receive some training in the latter when coming back to his school, after all, while the opportunity to learn more about Theology in the Ruby Dojo was unique.

Surprisingly - to him at least - she agreed, but not due to his words, but because of the other particularities of his original school's training .

He took to the training whole-heartedly. He read through the texts not only easily, but excitedly as well, and found a number of passages which were very relevant for his own life and in general. His reciting of the information he had gathered was very good as well - but not inspiring enough to call Asako sensei.

Still, it was a good showing, and he felt he had learn important things for his future.

[Bayushi Kaidan]

Kaidan convinced Himeya sensei that it was better for him to know about divination rather than theology. To anticipate the future is something a shinobi should be able to do. He was able to channel the divination but the day has been terrible for the boy. He couldn't see the signs of the tea to know what in Jigoku was going to happen. He was close to interpret but not said the right things.

[Matsu Qiang]

At first studying the spiritual texts seemed boring to Matsu Qiang, but when he found a scroll of legends about his favorite Fortune, the young Lion grew excited and devoured the study material effortlessly.

When it was his turn to report what he had learned, Qiang stepped up eagerly.

“Facts about Bishamon,” Qiang recited. “The Most Interesting Fortune in the World!”

• “Bishamon can squeeze tea out of a stone.”
• “Bishamon once defeated Lady Sun in a staring contest.”
• “Bishamon once drowned a fish.”
• “Once a snake bit Bishamon’s leg. After five days of terrible pain, the snake died.”

The Matsu went on like this for some time.

He got bored in the middle of the long text and started to scribble with his brush a small drawing on the corner of a sheet of his own. The sensei noticed and reproached him.
He felt very ashamed, and did the remaining exercises at the best of his ability.

[Kaito Kai]

Banking on the first night's shenanigans with the ghost and ensuing supernatural chicanery to try to track it down, Kai banked on having demonstrated facility with the yarrow sticks to Asako Himeya-sensei to make their case to be allowed to use such skills for this event. After some back and forth, Kai was allowed to do so.

The signs came easily, but worked against the Kaito in that the signal was almost lost in the noise. It took some clearing up in post, but Kai was able to make sense of the portents presented. They indicated success.

Kazuko is determined to try much harder at reading all those boring blocks of words this time and surprisingly, it works out. She couldn't tell you exactly how she did it, even if the emperor himself were to ask. She barely remembers herself as she hurried out of the depressingly stuffy atmosphere as soon as she could and doubts she could do it again and wouldn't want to from how draining it was. Despite the effort and the fact that her attention wavered far too often daydreaming and counting the individual strands of hair in Kenji's scruffy bun, she's quite pleased with her performance and the fact that she's not a shugenja. It's not every day that she manages to become occupied with something so torturous for this long and do so well at it.

And so, Sanzo was tested on his theological knowledge. Of course, he grew up reading this sort of stuff, so he is absolutely unphased reading even the driest of texts. He even picks out the important bits of the text, manages to memorize them, and recite them back without error, and with an air of understanding.

Nesrin headed to the right, as requested and sighed just a little at another afternoon poring over scrolls. It wasn't that she didn't want to learn, but this kind of thing was so much better as stories recited through the days.

Still, this is what she was here for, no sense shirking.

It was a bit of a slog, but if you read carefully, you found the bits that were useful, or at least seemed useful. Like knowing the signs of upset elements and the proper way to sweep a shrine seemed like the kind of trivia you might just need someday.
