"Can we even do something against him? If he really is the Conspirator?"

"Then it seems like the Matter is outside of our Status,... i certantly can't compete with our Sensei in Status, even after the Gempukku i will be just an Gokenin compared to them...."

"For now. But more will come later, and perhaps we can rectify matters, if belatedly."

[Kakita Kenji]

He looked quite frustraded from this.

"Well, Regret is Sin." he concluded. "Tell me Toritaka-san, what awaits you in the future? If i may ask, of course."

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"You may, and I even have an answer."

She smiles. "I am to be married to Asako Saburo, joining the Phoenix. I have the hope that I will be able to serve in the Magistracy, as well, but that is less certain.

"And I would put the same question to you, if I may."

[Kakita Kenji]

"Oh-ho, is that so? I never expected anyone to marry the Grumpy Phoenix" Kenji laughed. "I don't know you well, Toritaka-san, but I congratulate you anyway, Saburo-san is a good if grumpy fellow. Though I must admit that he has changed a lot since Hirosaka, for the better."

He chuckled a little more.

"As for me, if everything works out, I should be engaged to Kazuko-san soon, after that I will take the position of Gokenin for my lord and administer a small village, far south of here. What comes after that, I don't know yet... ... if I'm good at governing, maybe I'll move up in the ranks? "

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

She smiles.

"Congratulations, then, on both! And my parents administer a village in Falcon lands; it is a quiet life, but a good one. I have no doubt that you will excel.

"But Asako-san is not so grumpy as that. Never was, really. Just focused--and passionate within that focus. It's an admirable quality in a man."

[Kakita Kenji]

Kenji chuckled again, "Yes his focus is indeed admirable. You know, I made him a promise back in Hirosaka." He paused, chuckled, and kept saying, "May it cost blood, sweat and tears, but I will beat you..... At the Topaz of course" he said with wide gestures.
"Now that my,.. performance isn't that,.. stunning, I'm unsure if i can keep that promise. I hope that he will forgive me for that."

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"Well, there are many ways to do so here. I do not think he plays Go well, for instance."

She smiles, gives a chuckle.

"But a friendly rivalry helps a person improve, and having someone dependable is never to be disregarded."

[Kakita Kenji]

"Ahh, it should be a fair competition, also there's only so far a mere Bushi can compete with a shugenja, but yeah, i need to find some time to talk to him again, this week seems to be so short...."

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"It does, yes. And none of us see others as much as we might like. But there is nothing 'mere' about bushi, my friend. Even the First Emperor was a bushi, not a shugenja, as was his son. And if it was worthy enough for them..."

She trails off, taking another sip of tea.

Kenji chukeld a bit "Yes, you're right about that, but the Son of Heaven is the Son of Heaven." it was an redundant statement, but well, it was true."It is truly fascinating how many Shugenja and Spiritual gifted Samurai-to-be are competing this year, most Samurai may see one or two Shugenja in their Life, or can claim calling them their friend."
