The Road Of The Thousand Shrines
The Road of the Thousand Shrines lies in the lands of the Phoenix Clan. The roadside is dotted with frequent, small shrines—one for each Fortune, so it is said. Only the truly desperate or pious use this way, for to stop and pay homage at each shrine causes interminable delay in a journey, but failure to do so invokes the wrath of the spirits.

Everyone has heard a story about some heretic or criminal who sought to use this route to escape from pious pursuers. Such stories invariably claim the culprits were never seen again, but whether this is because they escaped to a distant place or suffered the wrath of the kami, no one can say
