I don't see how the old rules fail here? You couldn't make the big fancy things due to TN.

You also couldn't make big fancy things because of the time required.

In the book rules, to make a basic katana, it takes 8 weeks.

The updated ones listed 8 days, though

Yes, it was hobbled together last minute to make crafting viable for the game. Never meant to be a permanent system because I felt like it still has a lot of problems.

Changed:
If a character wants to make a new item, they must make a check using the appropriate Artisan/Craft skill, with the TN set by checking on the rarity of the completed item and multiplying that by 5, then adding 15
to
If a character wants to make a new item, they must make a check using the appropriate Artisan/Craft skill, with the TN set by checking on the rarity of the completed item and multiplying that by 5, then adding 10.
That way, a Rarity 1 item would have a base TN of 15, which seems appropriate.

Merged the Bowyer and Fletcher skills.

Also took out the Ring guidelines for now.

Mastery Level 3/5/7: Reduce the final TN of your checks by 5 (so -5 at rank 3, -10 at rank 5, and -15 at rank 7)

Is this a master ability that applies to all crafting/artisan skills in these rules?
