A harsh Lesson

Post by Kakita Kenji » Tue Jun 23, 2020 2:02 am

Kenji was still thinking about how well he had performed the jiujutsu exercise during the morning kata together.

He had rarely thought about fighting with his own hands, mostly because he had never seen anyone fight like that before. But when he saw the dragon and falcon fighting during his practice after the kata, he was impressed.

In addition, the thought buzzed around in his head that a sumai champion could gain an audience with the emperor, not that he would be able to do so, but he liked the idea.

He looked for a quiet corner of the courtyard and beat around with his hands in an attempt to copy what he had seen at the Hour of the Snake, with rather less success...

A young boy stands nearby watching the Crane he frowns a little, "I am not familiar with that style, I thought the Crane preferred Kaze-do? "

Startled, Kenji spun around. At first he did not recognize the person, but then he suddenly bowed deeply "My name is Kakita Kenji, Mya-San... to be honest I have not had any training in Jiujutsu and have tried to copy what I saw today during the martial practice" he said stiffly.

Walking through the training grounds, a large Crab man, one of the sensei, pauses and looks at the two students now interacting with each other, observing them.

Wyn smiles softly, returning the bow. "Oh...I... " He steps forward some "My Sensei made us study the basics of Jiujitsu, said it was important to learn some of the basic self defense techniques in case we were ever somewhere where we had no weapons and had to defend ourselves, like if we were attacked in the baths or in court." He blushes a little, "not that anyone would ever attack anyone in courts, that would be dishonorable"

"I agree with you, Mya-San, normally most Kakita would rather avoid the way of the fist, after all we dedicate our lives to the way of the sword, but I had contact with two crabs that made me think. My duty will probably be to protect the life of someone else some day, for that I should always be ready and there are places where swords do not go... but apparently I still lack the skill for it" he said.

"I.... I could show you some basic stances my Sensei taught me" He shakes his head, "I am no master, merely a starting student, but I can at least show you the basics, how to make a fist, or how to turn your hips into a kick to provide the proper force." He smiles, "I know only some of the basics of Kaze-do, I haven't learned any Bariq, or Sumai, or Kobo or any of those more fance styles." He pauses, "I saw a Sumai match once but I am not exactly built for it"

Wyn shakes his head at being called Senpai, but he nods and steps forward, "The first step, is to learn the basic katas they teach you how to stand, how to move, to...repeat the same actions over and over until your muscles know the action better then your mind....I am sounding silly aren't I trying to sound like a sensei. Just...stand like this and follow my movements"

Kenji focused on the movements Mya performed, but was not nearly as skilled at imitating them. He was a little frustrated about this. The way of the Kakita had left him with clear signs and it could be seen in Kenji's movements that he kept changing into Iaijutsu positions.

"That is... more difficult.... than..... it looks..." Kenji said between the kata.

"You must..." He frowns, "Start with the feet, one foot forward, the other at a right angle, in this way you can turn almost any direction without much effort, it gives you a full range of motion to be able to command the whole area with your eyes. Next never stand flat, always use the balls of your feet. It allows you more freedom of movement, the ability to run and move in combat. I know that if you have a meter of steel in your hands you prefer them to come to you, but if you are only using your hands and they have a meter of steel, you must be ready to move or you die"

The big Crab man comes a little closer to the two training students, but still does not speak, watching as the Imperial takes the instructor role.

Kenji took a deep breath and tried again to copy the form of Mya, to his surprise he succeeded relatively well this time. "I think I am beginning to understand, Mya-San," Kenji said happily and with a smile

"Then you are probably wrong" He says it almost reflexively, like a mantra and blushes again, "Sorry...Habit, that is what my Sensei always says if I say I think I understand something" He returns to his stance, moving back and forth, putting weight on one foot then the other, to show the Kakita, "The next step is to change the way you think of your hand. In Kenjitsu to imagine you pointer finger as your weapon yes, let it follow the blade and thus make a blade the extension of your arm, in Jiujitsu you never strike with your fingers, or your knuckles, but the palm" He bares his palm, "This is your blade when you have none, imagine instead that you have your entire katana in your arm, and this is the tip." He frowns unsure if that came out quite clear.

I don't know the way of the fist as well as you do, Mya-San, but I understand the sword, the comparison is good," Kenji said while performing another kata

The Miya nods, "So now you take that stance, you put your fist down here at your waist, and then you turn on the ball of your foot and you extend your arm, palm first at the same time, and you use the momentum of your hips and the extension and you put all that power into the strike, the same way you would if you were swinging your blade around your body in one of them round house chop things you do to clear the area in front of you." He turns and extends his arm at the same time, as he does he lets out a little "HAI" sound which seems some what weird in its volume coming from such a small frame.

Kenji tried to repeat what Wyn showed him, but he stumbled as he tried to use his momentum to strike. He sounded a loud "Ha!" to overshadow his strut a little, even though Wyn would not overlook that. "It's definitely exhausting, Mya-San, I'm impressed with how well you can teach it, have you teached it before?"

"Indeed, I would like to know as well, Miya-san."

The large crab speaks up, his arms folded across his chest.

Wyn shakes his head. "No...I would not...I just am repeating what my sensei's said to me, though I did kind of...improvise by adding the sword stuff to it, I thought it might be helpful given you are Kakita and they all like swords" he pauses "Is that offensive? Am I stereotyping, like saying all Crab like walls?" He cocks his head and thinks, apparently not having noticed their observer at all, "You know you don't … yell when you hit things, yelling is bad, because it warns other people that your there and sometimes its better to go unnoticed, when I...made that sound, it was involuntary, I am trying to make it quieter." He thinks "Its important to .. empty your lungs into the strike, it adds to the power, puts everything into it, but you should do it silently." He smiles, "That's what my sensei says at least"
