Akai hanagasaku-mura is a small village situated between the edge of a bamboo forest and a small river. It is best known for its red flowers that bloom almost everywhere around the village. From these flowers and bamboo, the villagers make many colors in shades of red which they trade for rice and other things in the surrounding villages. Although the village itself has a few rice paddies, these are just enough to feed the villagers. The villagers mainly live on fish they catch in the river, the products of other animals, millet, buckwheat, other vegetables and the little bit of rice they grow in small fields.

The head of the village, a woman named Yagi, has been representing the villagers to the samurai for what feels like ages. Therefore it is not very surprising that the woman has a knack for dealing with samurai. She is known for her stubbornness and boldness towards others, but she seems to really care about the village and many children in the village call her Obaasan.

The village has typical things that a village of this size should have, but it is remarkable that the village has a proper shrine to the Fortune Inari, as well as the paint Manufactury that was built near the river. The smell of boiling bamboo and animal fat wafts into your nose as you pass by. Some Hinin huts can be seen a little further away from the edge of the village, where you can find tanners and other things that are in the duty of the Hinin.

One of the samurai who was previously in charge of the village had a small mansion built here, which is big enough for a small samurai family and a few servants. It has been empty for a few months now and only very little is known about what happened to the previous Gokenin.
