In case you are curious what a dice roll should normally come out to, here is a link to an online dice probability calculator for the Roll and Keep system.

Everyone's favorite probability table is back up and running under its own domain apart from Web Archive (at least as of early June 2020).

Is there any site that gives the l5r probability for if you're trying for low numbers?

You mean like when you specifically choose to keep the low dice? Not that I know of unfortunately.

What would you like exactly? The average and standard deviation of the lowest dice in XkY rolls, or the probability of rolling less than or equal to a given value if keeping the lowest dice? Or maybe something different?

I might be able to come up with something on R if it's one of the above that you're looking for.

I'll see if I can come up with something (or find something)!

Can't you just use the supplied tool to calculate odds of rolling greater than X and then subtract from 1?

That would give you the odds of rolling under with keeping the highest dice, absolutely. If you have a 70% chance of rolling equal or higher than X, then you have a 30% chance of rolling lower. The tools work for that.

If one is asking about staying under a certain number while keeping the lowest, however... that probably isn't represented in those tools. Keeping low has been exceedingly rare in all my years running/playing outside of sparing/dueling damage rolls, so it's just not come up.

I only kept lower dice once and it was because of Shinjo ancestor that I decided to interpretate as "no unnecessary bloodbath if you can bring your opponent down to Out instead".
