Event: Kakita Riku vs Hitoshi (Deadly Combat Event)

The tournament grounds are thronged with spectators, but the crowd seems subdued after the events of last night. A mild pallor hangs over the Topaz Championship and from the brusque instructions of the judges you get the impression they’d rather just get the whole event over with...

Kakita Riku is the first to the rack, picking what you presume is her favorite weapon with a distinctive white and blue wrap-ping on the hilt.

The two contestants proceed to the center of the ring, bow stiffly, and assume their stances. Those who have been visited by Satsume think they see his sad face amidst the observers, then the two strike at each other...

Riku’s sword is a real blade, honed to razor sharpness. It cuts through the unprotected flesh of her opponent exactly as if Riku’s goal was murder. Blood sprays on Riku’s face and across the sand of the dueling ring, leaving the Crane stunned and her opponent badly injured...

As healers rush to the fallen youth and chaos breaks out across the dueling grounds, The other participants step back and notice a slender figure passing through the gate of the school with a sword slung over their back. A sword with blue-and-white wrapping on its hilt—an exact double of Riku’s blade. It seems that Kitsuki Yuikimi, the previous Topaz Champion, has noticed something odd about the figure as well and takes off after him, yelling for assistance and pointing to a separate weapon rack well behind the dueling area,

"Get something useful!" she says as she takes to chase.
This is a multi-part event and is initially limited to 6 participants. For every participant over 6, two additional enemies will be added at the final portion of the event. Once the initial 6 participants are in this thread, there will be a delay of 12 hours from the last participants post to allow extras to join, then no further participants may join in, and the rules for the first portion of the event will be revealed

Upon joining this thread, participants may select a real weapon from the rack. The blades are a standard Katana (3k2 damage, void for +1k1 damage)

Note: By participating in this thread, you could die, have wound penalties, or use resources that will not be replenished for the Second Round of the Iaijutsu tournament. This thread has no impact on the First Rounds, as it happens after the matches are conducted.

Ichiro rushes forward always the first one to the front of the fray, he ignored the weapon rack thinking his fists better weapons than the swords. There was confusion and chaos everywhere but he stayed vigilant and looked for threats.

He was not here to be Champion he was here to do what was right and to inspire others on that path. Ichiro flips one of the blades from the rack, catching it easily, then takes off after the Kitsuki.

Having seen Hitoshi's blood splattering on the Crane's face, Prashant's first reaction was to rush to the ring to help the Mantis, but as he sees other healers rush to him and notices the figure scurrying off with a blade exactly like Riku's on his back, he changes his course.

Seeing the Ichiros already rushing ahead, he yells to them and tags along without even going through the rack, even as he looks around to see if 'someone else' is joining them as well - "Washamo Moto, Washamo Utaku, let's get them!"

Kokyou doesn’t need a weapon — he’s a weapon — and simply runs toward the figure carrying the blade to tackle it to the ground.

Seeing People grabbing swords Kenji grabbed one too. If he would die today he won't have to deal with the backlash his failure would bring to him.

(I don't think I can refuse to be pulled along by the Unicorn herd effect going here. That said, I may miss the 12 hour start mark because work. So Vutall is free to pull Nesrin if needed to move things along.)

The Battle Maiden pauses midstride at Prashant's call and immediately joins the rest of her clanmates. No testing blades for balance this time, just grabbing one saya and blade from the rack and thrusting them through her belt as she moves.

With a bye in the first round, Matsu Qiang was watching the match between Hitoshi and the Kakita girl, and leaped to his feet when he saw her deliver a deadly cut to the Mantis.

When Kitsuki Yuikimi commanded they arm themselves, Qiang took a sword from the weapon rack as well. It was well to be prepared for a fight, if need be.

Compelled by duty there was zero hesitation. Kichiro arms himself and rushes after the others racing alongside his cousin Matsu Qiang.

((This event opens in 3 hours from this post))
In order to chase the mysterious opponent, participants must do the following:

Players conduct the following, counting how many "actions" it takes to move a total distance of 200ft

-There are six (Now 3) horses tied up at the Academy Entrance from other guests having arrived on them to avoid the mud. As an "action" Players may conduct an Animal Handling (Horses) /Awareness roll at TN 20 to mount them safely. Failure on this roll means the horse bucks the character off, dealing 2k1 (exploding) damage, keeping high dice.

-If mounted, players as an "action" must make Horsemanship (Rokugani Pony)/Agility roll at TN 20. On success, they move forward a distance of the number they exceeded the ORIGINAL PRE-Raise TN by times 10. Successful raises/exceptional successes add an additional 10 feet of movement. Failure means they do not move.

-If unmounted, players as an "action"must make an Athletics (Running) /Strength roll at TN 20. On success, they move forward a distance of the number they exceeded the ORIGINAL PRE-Raise TN by times 3. Successful raises/exceptional successes add an additional 3 feet of movement. Failure means they fall in the mud and must spend an "action" standing up.

After a player has moved the required 200ft, they are met with a nageteppo trap that has been laid by the mysterious target!

-To spot the trap, players must make an Investigation (Notice) / Perception roll at TN 20. On a success, they are able to avoid the trap. On a failure, a flash nageteppo goes off, Dazing the character when they start the combat. Mounted characters are bucked off on a failure, dealing 2k1 (exploding) damage, keeping high dice. Additionally, a failed roll adds an "action" to your total action count.

After the nageteppo trap, the players must continue to move an additional 200ft, ending at a dock where Bayushi Sugai and a large number of ronin are standing on a dock getting ready to board a boat!

Kitsuki Yuikimi calls out to them, and Sugai stops, sneering at her and draws his sword...

If a players total "Actions" are 6 or less, they arrive on Round 1 of the Combat. Every additional action over 6 delays the characters entry to the fight by 1 round.

At the end of your post, please post your TN and Stance. Players start 30ft away from the opponents.

The Moto spotting the ponies immediately swung into one and with a loud cry of a Moto warrior chased down the fleeing coward. He pushed the beast hard and was pleasantly surprised by the speed of the pony. He deftly avoided the trap and made it right behind the Topaz champion seeing the large group of ronin he tightened on the reins ready to protect her and apprehend this criminal.

Ichiro vaults onto the back of one of the horses, his confidence seeming to carry over the steed which accepts the unknown rider. The mount is slow to start, frustrating the young man, but eventually picks up speed. His keen eyes spot the trap and the steed vaults over it though it once again takes time to pick up speed after.

Still, in all, he arrives shortly after the Kitsuki.

Kenji trotted after the fighters. When he saw the Ichiro's getting on horses he followed the flow and got on one too. He rode after them and managed to avoid the trap that was set for them. When he arrived at the scenery he centered himself, Katana in Hand.
He was ready to die.

Matsu Qiang gave chase to the mysterious assailant on foot, running quickly through the streets of Tsuma. Spotting the tripwire for the gunpowder trap, he gingerly stepped over the wire while ducking underneath the steel muzzle of the nageteppo. The young Lion arrived in the middle of the fighting, and he readied his sword to join in.
