((Players who are participating in the Fire! event may NOT participate in this event))
  • Air is precise, distant, and analytical. Air does not approach the matter directly, but with care, subtlety, and planning.
  • Earth is firm, grounded, and cautious. Earth prefers to act decisively, but only after due consideration.
  • Fire is passionate, inventive, and direct. Fire acts swiftly and with overwhelming force.
  • Water is flexible, responsive, and powerful. Water acts with confidence, flowing around the problem until it finds a solution.
  • Void is the element of no element, the mind of no mind. Void does not think, plan, or react. Void simply acts, moving in accordance with instinct and the natural path of the cosmos
.
A large interior hall has been cleared and set with a number of game stations, where contestants do battle in silence. Ikoma Ikehata roams about, indicating disapproval, curiosity, or satisfaction with a series of small grunts and sighs. As there is a time limit, slow play is punished with a sharp rap on the knuckles.

Judge Ring Hint:
Ikoma Ikehata studies the game being played with an almost eager intensity. "Just like on the battlefield; bold, swift, tactics bear results," he rumbles.
Event Rules:
Participants: Unlimited (Mandatory Event, with an exception)

Spells: Allowed, Each roll is considered a "Round". You cast the spell just before the event begins and may not cast during.
Kiho: Allowed, each roll is considered a "Round", Kiho must be activated at the start of the event, not during.
Kata: Not Allowed, as this is not a Combat.
Tattoos: Allowed, as each roll is considered a "Round" and you may use free actions at any time.

You may NOT target an opponent with any of these abilities before the event begins.

If you purposefully harm an opponent outside of the realm of the Sumai event (By winning the contested Jiujutsu roll) or the Weaponry event (By winning the contested Weapon roll) you loose 1.0 honor and 10 topaz points. If you do so a second time, you will be sent home in shame, removed from the tournament (and thus the game)

Also please remember that Spellcasting in Rokugan is a very spiritual thing, and to ask for the kami to do something for you is an incredibly rare thing and should not be done lightly.

Please find the Thread that has your name in the title and make your post, conducting all rolls in the post.

This event requires 3 Contested Games / Mental rolls. The game used will be listed in the thread where you will post.

Rewards:
-Each winner of the contested roll grants +2 points (Maximum 6 Points)
-Students may gain an additional +2 points per raise if the WIN the contested roll.
-For every 10 you exceed your opponents roll by on your roll, you gain an additional +1 point, up to your Void in additional points.
-The player who won more contested rolls is deemed the winner and is granted +10 Topaz Points.
-At the end of the event, Ikoma Ikehata will reveal which Ring she felt was the most appropriate and you will gain +5 Topaz Points if you used it.

I have decided to change the way pairing will work for this event.

Please either post, or join an already posted thread (only 2 participants per thread). The player who starts the thread MUST say what game it is, using their HIGHEST game skill on their character sheet. If they wish to use a different game, they must first pass a Courtier/Awareness check at TN 20.

The player joining the thread must either have that game skill as their HIGHEST skill, or pass a Courtier/Awareness check at TN 20.

For example, if Player A has Letter at 3 and Shogi at 1, they MUST either create a Letters thread, or join a letters thread. If they want to create or join a Shogi thread, they must first pass the required skill check.

If a player does not have any game, they may join any thread, using the games skill the creator of the thread set, or start their own thread, selecting a game.

Jiro's first letter is written on light paper in fine calligraphy. The scent of poppy wafted lightly over the letter.

Tomorrow's Promise
'mid matters most momentous
A dear friend's wisdom.

It was folded into a chrysanthemum and, after judging, sent in Otomo Nobuko's direction.

Games: Letters=46 Exceptional Success (+3 Topaz Points)
The letter made it's way through the small crowd of competitors and judges until finally arriving at Nobuko after she finished her match with Zashi. It was beautifully done and she didn't think she'd seen a better origami chrysanthemum in some time. When she unfolded it and read the poem, she smiled softly.

Nobuko folded it back up into the shape of the flower and casually made her way to where Jiro was sitting across from Kaidan, waiting for their own match to end so she could speak with him.

Having been roflstomped by his bro, Jiro turns to his dearest friend with a happy smile.

"Nobuko-sama," he said, them being in public. "Good afternoon! Did you like it?"

She smiled brightly at him - but not too brightly, they were in public - and offered the flower back to him, "It's absolutely lovely, Jiro-san. You did exceptionally well. I'm particularly fond of the scent you chose. Very light, but distinctive. And one that hints at an enjoyable meeting to come."

"I am very much looking forward to it," he said, eyes serious but the same smile shining. "There will have been some developments by then. I begin to wonder if some of your more boisterous friends might not appreciate an invitation, if not to this meeting, then perhaps to the next one?"

"My more boisterous friends?" she raised an eyebrow, considering that before tapping her lips with a fingertip - her gloves today were a green so pale they were almost white - and nodding, "I could invite them, yes. But perhaps to the next. Is there a chance this meeting could be in the morning? As we greet Lady Sun at her temple? We can pray for good tidings."

"That sounds excellent, Nobuko-sama," Tomohiro agreed. "It will be well to greet the morning in such a setting."

"Then I shall meet you there, Jiro-san," she said decisively and gave him another bow. "Thank you for such a pleasant invitation."
