Haruki takes the proper rituals before picking up his weapon, then shows a rather drab looking demonstration. He isn't trying to impress everyone here, per say, but to show to his proctors that he knows how to use a weapon with utmost skill. He bows to his opponent before taking a stance, speaking no words to his opponent.

Kazuko shoots a smirk at Haruki and the sensei. Although one might think she's not taking it seriously or is too relaxed as she's facing a friend and already has enough points to qualify, she's plenty nervous behind that swagger, the intense desire to impress Kakita Toshimoko still brimming within her.

"Good luck, Haruki-san! I won't go easy on you!"

After bowing, she picks up the katana with a flourish and makes sure to put on a show during her demonstration, although performance might be a better word for it, before engaging on Haruki.

Great, looks like Haruki isn't the only one to learn this kata. There's no way Haruki could even stand a chance now. There were just too many tasks to complete before he could specialize his training for the Iaijutsu contest. Oh well, he's going to try to not make it easy for Kazuko-san.

Kazuko beats Haruki with ease on the first round, but that doesn't mean she's going to let her guard down for future rounds. She does try to make sure her blows are as soft as possible though. No point in pulling a Qiang in front of Toshimoko.

Looks like holding back a little at first worked out in his favor, he found a weakness if only for a brief moment. Luckily that moment was all Haruki needed. In his speed though, he struck a little harder than he would have liked to.

Kazuko, perhaps a bit angry at herself, uses more force than necessary on that last hit. She mouths a small "Sorry," sheepishly after the blow.

The elation Kazuko felt while sparring (and winning) is overshadowed by concern at seeing Haruki wince, although her bandages don't really help him feel any better.
