Nobuko was a little surprised to be paired up against a Unicorn. And an Utaku at that. She didn't consider herself anywhere near as skilled and was nervous right until the race was called to start.

At the point she kicked her heels into the pony under her, her entire focus became about the set of tasks before her: get to the flag, get back to the start, lance the ring, and return.

As she had been doing more and more recently, she let her mind fall into the space between thoughts. Everything in the world was all part of a whole: there wasn't a real difference between she and the horse she rode, really. Both were taking action at the same time, for the same goal. They were one and the same.

By the time she finished, she didn't really know if she had come in first or not. She hadn't paid attention to that detail. But she had succeeded at the task before her and that was enough.

Himeko has no trouble mounting the horse, it being much smaller than her Utaku Warhorse. Her first ride to the flag is incredibly quick, pulling ahead without trouble. However, she misses her first grab at the flag and has to circle around it again to snatch it. Her ride back is still quick, keeping ahead of Nobuko, and she lances the ring on the first bout and slows down considerably, allowing Nobuko to almost catch up, but still stays slightly ahead.

Nobuko dismounted and bowed to her opponent. She was not surprised to have lost, but was proud of how well she did regardless. She had not been all that far behind her it seemed.

"Thank you, Utaku-san. I have been practicing when I can. I am glad it has aided me."

She did not comment on the 'making a fine unicorn' bit, but the blush at her cheeks said more than enough for her.
