Obstacle Course

If you fall into the mud and fail the Athletics / Agility roll, TN XX,to escape, do you fail the event? If so, do you get any Topaz points for the rolls you made before getting stuck in the mud?

Demonstration: Using whatever weapon you chose, Kenjutsu (Katana), Spear (Yari), Polearm (Naginata), or Stave (Bo), roll that Weapon Skill / Mental, TN 15 to demonstrate your technique. (The Demonstration is not part of the combat and is not an attack)

You can only use these weapons listed right?

Updated the Obstacle Course event with a clarification! (You do not gain points for the escape roll, must keep rolling till you pass, each failed attempt loses 1 point)

Updated the Weaponry event with a clarification! (You can only use one of those 4)

So you express your poetry through Weaponsmithing or Carpentry, or Cartography?

Updated the Arts event wit a clarification: Then, players must make 2 rolls, all at TN 20, picking one skill (and subskill) of the following to roll to express their poem. Any artisan or perform can be chosen, as it is interpretive! (Note: The two rolls use the SAME skill you selected, so if you picked Artisan: Weaponsmith, you would make two Artisan: Weaponsmith rolls)

For using Spells/ Kiho before the events (I'd say Kata too, but typically noone will have access to Kata plus one of the other two):

Could you activate 'both' a spell and a Kiho before the event? If so, would the activation of the second one normally count as the first round for the spell/Kiho's duration? (I suppose so? :) ) If one activates the Kiho by spending as a Free action by spending a VP instead, would it then not count as a round for the spell?

For the culture event, the hyperlink in the schedule post says 5 rolls are required, but the event says to make 3 rolls. Am I missing something?

You could, and it would could as the first round for the Kiho, requiring a VP since it it would be a free action instead of a complex.

An error on the link part

Oh, also on another note:

For the Weaponry and Sumai events, it is mentioned that no maneuvers can be used (although raises can be used for extra points). I was wondering if we could maybe call Raises for extra damage (+xk0) to make it less likely we will damage our opponents? (Since with lower strength we are actually more likely to cause more damage if keeping low :p)

Just to make sure - it would then count as the first round for the spell even if using a VP to activate as a free action? Found that a bit odd since usually a Free action could be used in the same round that you cast the spell (of course activating as a simple or complex action would count as the first round, since it would always be done in a later round). So just to make sure I understood it right :)

Thanks!

Nope, no maneuvers at all

It’s basically that you spent the time before the event casting the spell, so your wrapped up doing that. The Kami then react to the prayers as you step up to compete, so that begins the first round (your first roll) and then right before you begin, you reach into the void (spending a VP) and activate the kiho right before you roll.

Right! So it's one of the following options, then?

- Cast a spell only (using a complex action);

- Activate a Kiho only (that could use a Meditation roll as a complex action, if I understand correctly);

- Cast a spell (using a complex action), then activate the Kiho as a free action during the first round/ before the first roll using a VP.

Is that right? :)

Also - ok on the raises then! Thanks!

Oh, one more question - could we cast a spell on another character before their rolls? Would that then be 'instead' of casting in yourself? I imagine there wouldn't be time for casting on both yourself and someone else if it is possible to cast on others, right?

You can’t cast on others, and your example is correct

In between the law event and the games event, will there be a chance to meditate?

If the events are back to back and they do not say t the bottom you can meditate, you can not.

For sumai, the Intimidation vs Willpower roll is contested. Can winning it earn Topaz Points?
"The winner of each contested roll gains +2 points (Maximum 6 points)"
