(Day 7, EA) Deadly Event: Battle at the Docks

Special: Since all PC's go before NPCs, they may post/attack in any order, regardless of Initiative.

Special 2: If a character was Dazed during the first part of this event, on their first round of combat they make make their Dazed resistance check. On success, they are no longer dazed and may take their turn as normal. On a failure, they are dazed, and must make a check at the Reactions stage of each round.

c Dazed – A character who has been dazed suffers a penalty of -3k0 to all actions. Dazed characters can only use the Defense and Full Defense Stances and cannot perform an Iaijutsu duel. The character may recover from this Status Effect by making a successful Earth Ring Roll versus a TN of 20 during the Reaction Stage. The target may attempt this roll once each Round, and the TN decreases by 5 each time he fails the roll.

c Mounted/Higher – A character sitting atop a horse or other mount, or who is on higher ground (at least a four foot height advantage), gains a bonus of +1k0 on attack rolls against un-mounted/lower characters. A mounted character may not use the Full Attack Stance

[Utaku Nesrin]

Nesrin spins as new feet clatter onto the boat, some friends, some not so much. Her grin widens at the pure deadliness of the Dragon's cut as she wheels back into the fight.

The Mantis one-two wave and grapple attack proves highly effective. After a moment of hesitation at targeting a shugenja, she calls to Kokyou "hold him still!" as she leans low and stabs into the flailing mess with every bit of precision she has. Making sure that one won't have a chance to break out and harm anyone, she encourages the pony to almost kick someone in the teeth.

Kokyou looks at the horse and Nesrin nearly riding him over and then bashstabbing the pinned shugenja with a stern glare and a disapproving, “He was fraggin’ defenseless!”

COMBAT OVER!

The two charging Unicorn make quick work of the last remaining enemies, being sliced, punched, and trampled until they are no more. An eerie quiet settles over the area, just the crackles of the ice in the river and the hard breaths of the Topaz participants and their horses. Blood and gore is everywhere, and the bodies of twenty two well equipped ronin are strewn about everywhere.

The corpse of Bayushi Sugai can be seen frozen just under the ice, any life that would have been in the scorpion snuffed out by the lack of air. The blue wrapped sword still strewn on his back.

It occurs to nearly everyone that these men and women fighting them did not act like typical ronin...

[Mai]

Mai certianly wants to investigate, but her priority is healing her comrades.

Kokyou bow to Mai as she heals him with a smile, then he bows to the whole crew, and finally, he bows to his opponents, dead at their feet. Kokyou keeps breathing heavily, still a bit hurt.

Nesrin looks troubled, but still responds, "not so defenseless he couldn't roll an elbow into that gut wound your smearing all over the deck." She looks to Mai with relief as the shugenja proves once again to be a healing powerhouse.

[Kokyou]

Kokyou had bowed to them. He would not linger on on a sermon to the Utaku. What happened was reason enough to meditate on as decisions and actions needed to be made.

He gives Nesrin another smile, nonetheless.

Ichiro's eyes flicker open, "Thank you, Mai-san. Don't mind me, I knew you all could handle it so was having a little nap so I'd be fresh for the next match."

The cough when he tries to laugh puts the obvious lie to that claim.

"I think you might have a slight advantage on me for our duel Iuchi-san."

He slips from his horse and moves over to the Scorpion in ice. It was a distasteful use of a katana but thankfully it did not yet actually belong to anyone as he began to use the blade to break the ice.

"We need the sword on his back."

It takes some time, but Ichiro is able to chisel away the ice to retrieve the sword. A perfectly blunted training katana, well worn from constant use. It's clear this blade was the one intended to be on the weapon rack and that they were switched.

Flicking the blood from his borrowed katana and sheathing it, the Kitsuki boarded the ship and looked around. He hoped he might fi d something to better explain all of this.

After healing the others, Mai boards the ship to see if she can find anything that might tell more of what is going on.

The ship is well kept. There are supplies enough to hint at a long journey. Weapons, armor, food stuffs, and quite a bit of koku, showing that this group was well funded. Unfortunately, it seemed that there was little in the way of orders or communication found, though a journal from the ships captain does mention something about a "handler" something about Tsuma being a destination with Sugai, and something about a future mission to Slow Tide Harbor.

((There are a total of 30 Han-Kyu, 400 arrows, 10 Yari, 22 Katana, 22 Wakizashi, 10 sets of modified Light Armor (TN +5, Reduction 5) and 30 sets of Ashigaru armor, a scroll satchel filled with ciphered scrolls, and 200 koku, as well as a number of supplies such as rope, grappling hooks, cooking pots, and well preserved food stuffs. There is also the captains Journal, which details the above, though vaguely.))

Qiang joined the others in searching the ship, and securing the prisoners - if any had survived to be questioned.
