[Iuchi Prashant]

Prashant had learned much about the way of the bow during his time in Hirosaka - in no small part due to hits from his Unicorn friends. The Naadam had been a welcome chance to practice more, but aside from the competition he hadn't focused much on it during the last months.

As Naomori told them to let 'the arrow find its way', he let his mind free itself of its worries, as he so often did while meditating. This time, however, his focus should be on the target and the arrow itself - a bit different from his usual practices, but a welcome change.

His first shot was a bit unsure - he let his mind wander, and he felt it attune to the arrow, but it was still too aware of the others around, the birds chirping, and the sun on his eyes.... but still, the arrow hit its target, and not entirely without style.

Before the second and third shots, Prash remembered the map his imperial friend had handed him two days before, and how the Miya had explicitly mentioned information on the wind and the topography of each part of the city - including the shooting grounds at the academy. He pictured the map on his mind, then the target, and this time he could feel and follow the arrow's way perfectly as it traveled and hit close to the bullseye.

For the third shot, which was farther away, he did the same - and remembered the words of Nesrin and Utaku Ichiro clearly as they told him what to do when he still hardly knew how to string the bow. Smiling at the memory of them training together, he released the arrow confidently... and hit it did again.

It was not a performance worthy of the winner of the Naadam, of course, but it was a good showing nonetheless - especially for a shugenja.

[Matsu Qiang]

Matsu Qiang focused on perfect form. Remembering his archery lessons from school, he stood just so, then bent the bow just so, drew the string to his cheek the same way each time. The Lion barely saw the target as he loosed the arrow; instead he thought about the way the sun warmed his face, and how the spring breeze gently brushed past him. Qiang concentrated on doing it exactly the same way every time.

When Qiang lowered the bow and looked up, he could see the arrows feathering the center of the target.
