"the First Magistrate? You mean Kakita-domo, he was not a Topaz Champion, it wasn't founded yet"

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"The ascended Saibankan, rather--for while the First Kakita was his Emperor's Champion, of course, the magistracy was only codified later, as I am certain Miya-sama knows. But I was less clear than should have been, for which I apologize."

[Miya Wyn]

"the Fortune of Justice of course, sorry" He nods slowly, "No I doubt he was a topaz champion, for many years only Crane could compete, much less win, it is only more recently that they began inviting others. Only the last 4 or 5 centuries"

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"So, greatness even without. And I have no doubt that you will be among the mighty, Miya-sama. You have time."

[Miya Wyn]

"My job is not to be mighty" He chuckles softly, "In fact do you know the motto of the Miya Heralds?"

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

Her eyes close for a moment, as if searching, before she responds.

"'There are no Miya heroes.' But one need not be a hero to be mighty. The foundation of a tower is lauded little, perhaps, but without it, the tower does not stand."

[Miya Wyn]

"If the heralds are the bricks of the foundation, the cartographers are the mortar."

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"A mixed blessing?"

She cocks an eyebrow and smiles slightly at the jest.

"But if I may, Miya-sama, where would you ask to be assigned, and in what capacity, after your gempukku?"

[Miya Wyn]

"I had not really considered it yet, I have friends in the Unicorn and Crab lands, and I have become interesting in mapping some of the edges of the empire."

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"Outside air is good for a body."

She nods.

[Miya Wyn]

"I don;t know they say air outside the Empire has no Kami"

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"I don't know how it could not, since they are the thing, and the thing is them. Sleeping, maybe, or suborned, but still."

She shrugs.

"But I, too, am still learning."

[Miya Wyn]

"This is what the Unicorn tell me. That when they went into the burning sands they had to carry Kami with them because outside the Empire there were none"

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"As you say."

She lapses into silence, still not understanding how such a thing can be, but not willing to risk the implications of the discussion further.

"Do you think you will fare better today, then, than yesterday?"

[Miya Wyn]

"I am going up against a Moto master swordsman for Weaponry, according to the list, I barely know how to keep from cutting myself." He smiles softly, "Poetry is not exactly my art form, but at least they are allowing me some freedom on the expression portion of Artistry." He nods, "So there is hope there. How do you expect to do?"

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

"Not as well as I'd like to do, of course."

Another smile at the self-deprecating jest.

"I think I will continue to show a respectable performance. And that will be enough; few expect more from a Minor Clanner."

[Miya Wyn]

"I think it might be a good shake up if a minor clan /were/ to win the championship"

[Toritaka Sasaiko]

Sasaiko smiles.

"It would, yes, but I do not know that I will be the one to do it.

"Though I will not be sad to see it happen."

[Miya Wyn]

"Better you then Kokyu, " He grins, "Mai was quite a surprise at Hirosake, honestly it will all come down to Tari-jai and how good you are at it"

Sasaiko's face freezes at the first name.

Somewhat tightly, she replies "It is as you say, Miya-sama. It is indeed as you say."
