The rumors that Kakita Toshimoku would be arriving tomorrow had been buzzing around the dojo incessantly, and Kazuko would not let her hero down if they were true. Swallowing her nervousness, she seeks out the Bayushi deathdealer to practice her Iaijustu forms.

The giant Moto was also there, he knew the basics of the art of the duel but getting finer points from the Bayushi would be beneficial for doing well in tomorrow's lesson.

"Ah, so, the students wish to learn the art of the draw. I am most pleased you have picked me instead of someone in blue and white."
A very sing song voice calls out

"Of course. As long as the person is skilled, it should not matter." Kazuko responds neutrally, not entirely believing of what she says. Of course it matters, it always has, but she is willing to train with even a Scorpion Deathdealer if it means not looking like a fool in front of Kakita Toshimoku.

"Come then, show me what you know already. Then I can mold you."

"Alright..." Kazuko responds, still a bit hesitant to be so open with a Scorpion, even a sensei. She shows what she knows so far, adopting a more serious look as she pretends Toshimoku sensei is watching her. This is a good practice run for the real thing tomorrow.

“Hmmm. And you, Moto-San?”

Ichiro cared nit for the color of ones kimono if they had skills to teach him. He lowered into a stance and did a draw, he wasn't perfect or even all that skilled but he had practiced some and knew the basics.

"Well, it seems you both have a good grasp of the basics. Any practiced duelist would defeat you easily, but against those who are of your own skill level, I believe it would be quite even. Come, let me show you a new method..."
The Scorpion takes up a stance with his feet planted, his left foot in front of the other by a shoulder width. His knees bent slightly, and his weight more on the front foot than the back. His hips and torso are turned sideways, so his daisho is facing his opponent and he rests his sword hand palm up on the grip of his katana, his other hand holding the knot that ties his swords in place.

Kazuko attempts to imitate the new method to the best of her ability.
"Ichiro-san, if you won't mind me asking, is there a particular reason you are interested in dueling? From my understanding, the Unicorn do not duel much."

Ichiro shrugged "I have thought being a magistrate. Besides we are being tested on it and I strive to do the best I can."

"Really? Why a magistrate and not, say, a part of the cavalry?"
Kazuko continues practicing the new form as they talk.

"Good,"
The sensei interrupts
"Now, the draw and strike."
She swings her back foot out behind her and bends her body in a dodging motion, drawing her katana more by pulling the sheath back than by pulling the sword out and then makes a quick flick of her wrist to bring the sword out to strike an imaginary opponents leg.
"This way, even if they are faster, you won't be where they strike and you will hit them in the exposed area"

"We are not so barbaric that we do not have need for law and order as well Kakita-san." He replied flatly
He turned his attention to Bayushi-sensei as they showed the students their technique. It was interesting that was for sure. Ichiro didn't think it was one he would end up imitating in real duels but it was nice to have an example of what to look out for.

The scorpion sensei sure is good at this, though she secretly thinks that the Crane are still better.

"Ah, I didn't mean it like that," she hastily amends. "I simply thought that a man of action like you would not be inclined towards the paperwork that a magistrate has to complete."

He raised an eyebrow at Kazuko "You do not think I can read and write well enough to be a magistrate? That I am only good for swinging a sword." The questions weren't delivered with venom but his face appeared expressionless as he waited for her answer.

"I never said that. I only remarked my curiosity to why a man as skilled as you would prefer brush and paper over the thrill of combat. The Unicorn clan do not have any magistrate training schools to my knowledge and I have been told that they are people of action, but it seems that not all are that way."

a small smile finds its way to his face "Calm down, I'm just messing with you. I hate paperwork but I have skills that would make a good magistrate. Maybe not my first choice but the possibility is there. Also the Shinjo have a magistrate school."

The scorpion watches the exchange silently.
