The New Winds

A bayushi girl walked around the Hirosaka dojo, looking for Bayushi Kaidan. She wondered where this boy could be.

Kenji was on his way to get his food when he passed a scorpion girl.

A Scorpion girl... who is not Otoko?

Kenji was sure he knew all the students who belonged to Hiroska, but maybe he just missed them?

He stopped and bowed: "I deeply apologize Scorpion-san, I haven't really met you yet, or can remember. "My name is Kakita Kenji, to whom do I have the honor of speaking?"

The girl smiled. "It is an honor to meet you Kakita san. This one is Bayushi Keiko." She bowed. "I am looking for someone it seems that people think he has disappeared. I wonder where he is."

"It is an honor, Keiko-san. You are looking for someone who has disappeared? I heard the rumor, but I don't believe Kaidan-san is missing. The way I see it, he's just a quiet guy."

Kenji said, thinking.

"Actually, I know very little about him. But I can help you look for him."

"Honto! Yokata! Your news are well recieved by this one." She seemed relieved. "Thank you Kakita san. It is odd that there is a rumour of someone had disappeared, when they have not." She sighed. "Perhaps we should find out who made such callous lie."

"Of course. But you have to understand people, Kaidan was rarely seen, unfortunately. I remember the first day here, he had a sparring match against Iuchi-san. After that he was rarely seen, he kind of gets lost in the crowd. At least I rarely saw him," Kenji said.

"Kaidan kun is a very mysterious boy. He is not really a physical person. I think he likes playing mind games with people." Keiko nodded. "So what about you?"

"About me?" Kenji looked suprised "Well, i like to play Go. But i couldn't tell you how people see me." He answered sincerly.

"What brought you to Hirosaka?" She wondered

He let out a small laugh. "I told someone at the first day that it was simply luck what brought me here." His face took on a gentle expression: "She said that I deserved to be here, no matter what the circumstances. Now I'm not so sure if it was luck that brought me here. Maybe it was fate, or maybe it was skill."

She placed her hand on her chin thinking. "Maybe the fortunes wanted you to taste something new." She nodded. "I on the other hand feel that I am supposed to be tested for something... you know. The good of the clan or the good of the empire."

"It's amazing how much you can learn here. From which Scorpio dojo are you from, if I may ask?"

"I am a long way from home. I come from the Shimomura dojo." She placed her hand on her lips. "It is a dojo for bushi training and perhaps some other skills."

Kenji raised one eyebrow.

Scorpions, he thought.

"Well then, shall we look for Kaidan-san? I'm sure we can find him at the mess hall."

Keiko frowned at the raised brow. "You misunderstand we get courtier training as well." The girl sighed. "Yeah he must be eating in the mess hall."

"Scorpions and mysteries usually go the same way," Kenji said and accompanied the Young Scorpion Lady.

While they were on their way, he examined her closely.
Kenji could swear he had seen all the students so far.
Something was wrong with Keiko's gait, she was walking too wide.
He looked at her again.
Something was wrong, the cheekbones were too pronounced, the brows too bushy and were those barely visible stubbles?

"....." Kenji stopped. "It must be quite a good joke."

"What do you mean?" She wondered. "What joke?"

Kenji started circling around 'Keiko'. "Well. One of the students suddenly disappears, and a new Scorpion Maiden appears,... don't you think that's strange? It seems I understand now what other skills your dojo is teaching you, Keiko." he put an emphasis on 'her' name

She tilted her head. "What is so strange? An Akodo disappeared and a Matsu came by." Then she smiled. "There are ways to investigate rumours and there are ways to investigate rumours." She winked at the Kakita.

"Well,.... then let's proceed. I'm intesting to see what you can achive, Keiko-san" Kenji said, smiling mischievously
