Yasuki Ginkarasu was having a good day. All his mochi had sold. He'd been doing well in training. He'd gone up in ranking. Well, it was sad that not everyone could be as good as the Asako, but he was still doing better then he had been!

The contentment helped him focus on what the sensei was saying. String the bow, carefully.

No, more carefully.

Okay. Yes, like that.

Nock arrow.

Sharp end goes away from you. Like swords.

No, holding the bow sideways doesn't make you look cool, it makes you look like a target.

Breath.

Let go.

Then let go!

Mai took her turn at the archery target. She would make Akodo-sensei proud. After all, he seemed to appreciate her abilities. She strung the bow up. The first thing she did was clear her mind. That was easy enough. She then in turn filled it with the image of the target. The next second she let got of the string, and watched as the arrow hit the target. She may not have super impressed Kakita-sensei, but she didn't dishonor Akodo-sensei's lessons.

Ichiro had been training for this day for a long time now many days spent out on the range and it was all for this. The first shot was barely successful, Ichiro had never been very good at centering himself or clearing his mind but it was enough.

Then it was on to his eyes which have always been keen, He called various shots as he fired his bow again and again top left, bottom right, center mass. each one sank into its designated area. and then Ichiro showed off a flawless release worthy of a Tsuruchi and the arrow released from his bow split the first one down the middle scoring a second bullseye.

Kakita sensei certainly took notice of the Moto boy.

"Bows? As in, we are actually going to be firing real arrows?" Zashi gulps a little at the thought of handling a real weapon makes him wary. Before it had been wooden practice sword. This...this was potentially lethal business.

"Alright. Empty mind they say?" Zashi gives a quiet chuff. "That should be easy for me"

Perceiving the target? That was harder. The first shot went wide, but Zashi is quick to recover and loose an adjusted shot that strikes home.

"I'm slipping..." Zashi shakes his head, thinking of his ranking

With how much effort Saburo had been putting into the concept of finding his center, it was inevitable that at some point he was going to get to the center even if only by accident. In that moment, he cleared his mind, the screaming of shrieking demands within himself for absolutism fading away for just a moment. In and out he breathed, and he could picture the target perfectly. With one, swift, fluid motion he strung, drew and fired. Again. Again. Cleanly.

A sigh of relief was barely withheld when he looked at the target. That would do, hopefully.

Haruki tries to clear his mind, but he's just too high strung at the moment. He looked at the school rankings for too long, and now every time he closes his eyes, he sees the Shiba senseis looking down on him. It's like they are judging him everywhere he goes! Well, if that's the case, he's going to make them proud.

The young Kuni monk prepared as best he could for the training with study the day before. He went over the lessons in his head, but started paying attention to the sensei's instruction here to reinforce the two different teaching styles, trying to find the places where they meet and using the wisdom of both to as best effect as he can. The lessons finally start to make far more sense as he begins going through all the explained motions. Finally, when it comes time to demonstrate what he has learned he does so with a good degree of skill.

The young bushi emptied his mind. He was surprised at how meditative it was.

He focused on his target, envisioning the arrow flying through the air to strike it's center.

He releases the arrow, sending it out into the air trusting that it would find it's target.

Hey! It worked!

Ichiro had already trained with Kakita-sensei and had fared quite well even then let alone with all the training that had come since. As such, while not cocky, he approaches the range with confidence. Confidence that is not unfounded as he easily and quickly sinks arrow after arrow into the targets.

Wyn steps up to the range, First he begins with the standard step of clearing his mind in order to center himself. Suddenly the world falls away until there is nothing left but the arrow, the bow, and the target. He is so shocked by the way the world completely falls away that it takes him a moment to line up, envisioning the shot and releasing, he makes the target, if just barely.

Nobuko trusted she knew what she was doing. This was, at least a skill she had some training in. She was able to clear her mind and focus her target. But her confidence got the better of herself when she released and found her arrow going wide. It hit the hay bale, but it hit it outside the target circle.

Disappointed in herself, she bowed to the sensei and returned the yumi.

Prash had not had that much training in Kyujutsu before coming to the Ruby Dojo, but he'd had a fair bit of training during his time here. He remembered the time training with his fellow Unicorn some days ago, and he took some more time to practice the day before.

He knew he should be able to do this, and he was determined to do his best.

After stringing his bow, he took a long time looking at the bow, the arrow, then the targets, then focusing on his breath. Calm one, and the other will follow, he remember Kitsuki Sensei saying.

It took some time, but he finally felt ready. He extended his focus to the target, and could imagine his arrow reaching it easily, effortlessly. It felt almost natural.

He then released the arrow. Its flight was not as perfect as it could be, but it hit close to the centre, as it had in Prash's mind.

Once again, it wasn't a good enough performance to draw the Sensei's attention, but he did what he had to do, and he was happy to come back home a competent archer.

Matsu Qiang’s keen eyes picked out the aiming mark on the target. Mentally he imagined what it would be like for his arrow to strike the mark. Then he pictured the moment before the arrow would strike…. and the moment before, all the way to the moment where the arrow would spring from his bow.

Finally, the young Lion raised his bow and loosed the arrow at just the right angle, just as he had imagined. The arrow did the rest, flying forward and striking the hay bale exactly where Qiang had aimed.

The previous day's archery practice seems to have helped Sasaiko. She easily exceeds the sensei's demands--but she is perhaps a bit arrogant in doing so, which does not win her the sensei's particular regard.

Still, it is a good and productive showing.

Sakura looked funny with the large Yumi bows - they were almost as big as she was! Her focus was a long way off, however she seemed to be pretty decent with the bow itself, eyeing up the shot well and releasing the arrow well.

She likely didn't have a future as an archer, but she at least landed a shot.
