Meditate This (Open)

Saburo felt once again the frustration of difficulty centering himself. It was repeated, over and over again, and he was finally absolutely sick of it. After yet another problem with this element of his tasks, he settled himself into a seated position within the dojo, away from the others. It was patently obvious that he intended to remain in the lotus position until he found infinity, or his stomach demanded his attention.

The truth was that, no matter how much he had practiced it, he probably would eat before he made progress, but it was the effort that counted for now.

Kokyou notices his friend skinny-bones and approaches. Noticing he was trying to meditate, the Mantis decides to help him a bit by sitting right in front of him a mere half finger away from touching knees.

The boy, though, sits in seiza. Not in lotus. He chants, out loud, "Mokusooooooooooooooooo..."

Not exactly helpful, but he couldn't say that chanting wasn't part of it in certain traditions. Besides, demonstrating an ability to ignore the distraction of having a loud, obnoxious so and so right in front of him was ... actually, good practice. He attempted and endeavored to keep his face still and to ignore the sounds around him. The squint in his face said just how well that was going.

Still, Kokyou was being weirdly helpful, in his own way.

Kokyou opens unarrows one of his eyes to observe Saburo and sees that he managed to either break his classmate's concentration or being a sufficient nuisance for the Asako to fail into meditating.

He starts to chuckle and says, "Ye're nah meditatin'. Ye poser."

One eyebrow raised and a slitted yellow eye looked at Kokyou levelly. "I am practicing meditation. But if you are asking if I am successfully gaining anything from my meditations, then the answer is no. No I am not." However, since he had been spoken to, he shifted back and gave Kokyou a bow, because that was the proper thing to do under the circumstances. "Most meditative methods I have encountered do not involve chants." Not all, but certainly most.

Kokyou bows back. He is no barbarian. Then, he replies, "Aye. Chantin' be often done t' formalize the meditation. I reckon ye like that kind o' stuff, being all stiff 'n everythin'."

"Believe it or not, that sort of formality is not common in our monasteries. There is a certain preference for silence," he grunted out, staring at the young man, unsure if Kokyou was fucking with him, or if the monks of Kaimetsu-uo were just ... different. "You will forgive me, but you did not seem a man given to much contemplation of this sort."

"I be as mysterious as the briny deep 'n as shallow as a summer beach camp. Dependin' on the weather, I change sails." He says, feeling wise and not arrogant.

"..."

He paused his meditations to regard the young man with both eyes, frowning a little and reaching up to tap at his lips. He looked deep in thought about something... that or constipated. It could be very difficult to tell with this boy which was at work here. He grunted for a moment and then finally he nodded as if he had had some sort of epiphany. Sniff sniff. Nope, probably an epiphany and not gas. Probably. Sometimes they were silent but deadly.

"That may be one of the more intelligent things I have heard said of the void in coming here." Which surprised him because it came out of Kokyou, a man who he would not have pegged as 'a brilliant scholar of the elements.' But that did actually work.

"Ye're welcome, skin-n'-bones." Kokyou says, nodding to him. "I be even prouder o' ye now."

"Very well. I am going to attempt to meditate again. You are welcome to use the space for it, but if it would not be too difficult, I would appreciate some silence?" Yes, might as well ask. Be polite, Saburo. You could do that.

"I be the most difficult scurvy salty sea dog 'round." He mentions, hands on his waist while he looks to Saburo trying to get back into the zone.

After a moment of silence, he comments, "Nay. Ye're pretendin' again."

"Most likely," he grunted out, a sour look blossoming on his face. "I'm going to be speaking with Asako Himeya-sama about possibly getting some suggestions from her tomorrow. I believe if she has a little time to spare once today's lesson is concluded that I may be able to get some insight from speaking with her. For now, I am likely pretending, as you put it, to myself."

He nods. "At last. We agree."

Kokyou chuckles and lifts himself up to take his leave.
