The New Winds

The teachers might be watching the doors to the exit, but it seemed that no one was stopping students from climbing to the roof. Maybe not possible to escape out into town, but well, there seemed to be opportunities elsewhere. Zashi stretches out, staring at the twilight.

Sakura had a similiar idea. Or at least she had heard Zashi talking about it and decided it was where she wanted to be as well. She was a natural climber, so getting onto the roof wasn't difficult. She quietly moved over to where the Fox samurai was, and whispered "Zashi-san? Are you asleep?"

"Not without you next to me" Zashi whispers back, expecting a furious blush. "I was hoping you would come up if I planted the idea"

Sakura did, predictably, blush. She sat down close to him, before laying down and looking up.

"It's a good idea. The view of the sky here is so beautiful. I hadn't thought of climbing onto the roof! I'd rather see it from like a pretty field full of flowers, but laying up here is also good. Better with the company" she peeked at him again.

From their perch on the roof, Zashi and Sakura are able to spot a woman climb over and into the Dojo, entering into the forge. Soon after, 6 students follow after...

"Huh...did you see that?" Zashi, despite enjoying the rest, bolts upright. "Someone just went into the forge...is that where you were keeping your sword in progress?"

"It's a tanto not a sword! Tantos are knives, so they're much smaller and..."

...
...

"My tanto!" Sakura nearly jumped to her feet "can we get over there from here?"

" we can't get out without being seen." Zashi rumages through their pack pulling out the fox mask. "But a random fox
.." Zashi frowns thinking of Kenji's warning.

"Maybe I should just go myself. Warn the teachers without explains why we are out of bed. Kenji will kill me if I take you out on a shapeshifting adventure"

"I'm coming. It's my tanto, I need to go!"

Sakura had that 'you're not changing my mind' look about her.

"Do we need to use..." she took out her mask from her kimono sleeve "these?"

"Well, it's either that or we explain to sensei why we were up here and people will find out we told." Zashi makes a face. "Im taking a chance with the mask."

Zashi slides the mask on and does a somersault, and is now a fox.

"Oh yeah."

Sakura watched the sumersault and the change with wide-eyes; it looked so cool! She did her own elegant somersault, and as her feet came back to the ground her body had changed to being a small elegant Crane with white feathers and blue eyes.

There was a calling that she could hear, telling her how much nicer it would be to just be a bird...no more samurai drama...it was tempting, but she wasn't pulled just yet.

Zashi twitches a fox tail. "Alright, let's scamper" Zashi runs, trying to elegantly jump down and taking the eye of the teachers at the front gate

Sakura nodded, letting Zashi jump down first to get attention before she took off, flying fast.

Other than the guards at the gate and at the barracks entrance, no adults are around, instead they are inside their own barracks for the night.

Zashi lands in front of the barracks guards and begins letting out a series of yips, trying to get their attention

"Is that a fox?"

"Looks like it wants to play."

One of the guards try to chase him a little, but doesn't stray far from the entrance to the student barracks.

"Quick one!"

Sakura, who was watching from high in the sky, waited to see where Zashi lured them. She needed the opening to dive into the forge.

"Ok they seem to need a little encouragement." Zashi lets out a series of yips, running back and forth. Finally, the fox shuts it's eyes. Summoning a cubic foot of fire that quickly dissipates.

"Let's see if that gets your attention."

With Zashi attracting the guards, Sakura took the chance to fly at great speed into the forge to check on her work.

"Foxfire! It's a Kitsune!"

The guards both stare at Zashi in amazement and kneel down, bowing to him.
