Talks About Talking

Haruki looks around for Doji Murashige-sensei, eager to talk about how Nakado organize in ways similar to soldiers on a battlefield. How do you maintain a chain of command with soldiers who each have their own personal objectives as well, none clear at the moment, and all looking for ways to push ahead of the competition? She should be in a neat room with plenty of tea right?

She was indeed, and upon his entrance she gives a shallow seated bow and motions for him to come forward.

"Hello, Isawa-san."

"Good afternoon Doji-sama, I am not sure if others wish to join us, but I am willing to wait just in case." He looks around the room to get comfortable with his surroundings before moving to take a seat.

"We shall indeed wait for a little while. You seek the ways of the court, no?"

"Indeed I do, thank you for remembering Doji-sensei."

"Well, one of the main duties of the courts is to convince those you are petitioning to do as you suggest. For this exercise, pick something and attempt to convince me it is in my best interest to do."

A Mantis appeared. She bows. "I am sorry. I meant to be here earlier. May I join?" That sounded polite.

"Certainly, Mantis-san. We are learning court behavior. Isawa-san will try to convince you that it is in your best interest to do something he requests."

Mai nods and turns to the Phoenix.

"You seemed to know much about the sparrow clan, but I would like to know how you came to know a clan that far away from the sea."

Getting Mai to talk about herself is not exactly the hardest of things. "My mother was a Sparrow. We visited my grandparents once when I was younger."

"I heard the Sparrow clan is famous for their vows of poverty, and if so, how do adjust to life in between two extremes. I hear a lot of talk about treasure from your clansman here."

"It was not easy, but my family was really nice and helped us adjust. My dad found it difficult, though it was mainly being away from the sea rather the comfort." Mai was being honest, but had trouble portraying such.

The sensei listens and nods in approval.

"Good, gathering some information before you make your case is important. Continue, once again, your goal is to convince Mantis-san to do something for your benefit that she would not normally do"

"Well, since you seem to understand the difficulties of adjusting to a new environment. Surely you must know that going from a big city like Kyuden Isawa to a more rural land like Hirosaka means there is a possibility of malaise that only medicine can fix. We wouldn't want to bother Asako sensei with every little ailment, perhaps you could afford a medkit that we could use?"

Mai considers it. "Well, that wouldn't be a bad idea. But I'm not sure how much one would cost or where I would find one." Mai does think about where that could be solved.

OOC: It is impossible for me to beat that, so not even trying.

"Good. That is an excellent example of how court works. Now, Mantis-san, it is your turn. Convince Isawa-san to do something."

The Doji literally rolls her eyes.

"Isawa-san, don't even give that a response. Mantis-san, if you are not going to take this seriously, then leave. If you are going to take it seriously, try again. Remember what I said to Isawa-san, and how he built up with you before finally making a request"

Mai bows to the Doji. "I am sorry, Doji-sensei. I just got nervous. We didn't do much training for court stuff on the Isles. I am talking this seriously."

She takes a deep breath and tries again. "Isawa-san, my dad has been to the Phoenix ports. He has said the land is beautiful, but he has never been far from the shore. What's it like in rest of the lands?"
