If the Inherited blade is to not give bonuses to Iaijutsu, then what sort of non-combat rolls should it give a bonus to? Defense would probably encroach upon being combat-related. Intimidation when threatening a duel/violence with the inherited weapon? Or maybe expand that more generally to social r...

Yeah, I was trying to think of when that would come up.

It seems Iike it's a bit too strong when including Assessment and Focus rolls, but nearly useless when it doesn't. There has got to be some sort of middle ground...

If Inheritance: Katana does not add the +1k1 bonus to Assessment and Focus, what bonus would it provide? A +1k1 to noncombat Kenjutsu rolls?

"Hm? Ah, yes, it is as you say." He silently wandered if he'd ever be able to use these methods. Maybe for information gathering purposes and whatnot, though, as Kitsuki sense points out, not for purposes of direct accusation.

"Thank you, Kitsuki-sensei. You've given me a lot to think about."

"Hmmm... sounds almost like how the testimony of spirits isn't admissible, either. I suppose I'll just have to be really sincere about anything I find using these methods and maybe skip over the how."

"Hmmm, well I can think of one: what is the best way to have other samurai accept your findings using these unorthodox methods? Such practices aren't very common around the Empire, right?"

"Indeed! Certainly keeps things interested, being in a group of such talented students."

Sanzo nods along, trying to absorb as much of the strange methods and practices as possible. He tries to grasp as much as he can about the wide range of topics at hand, everything from gathering evidence to spotting untruths.

"Yes, please, Kitsuki-sensei. I have heard of your family's famed ability to notice things others wouldn't even think to look for, to see through lies and trickery. Even just a simple understanding of the Kitsuki's methods would help me greatly if I'm to serve as a yojimbo or magistrate."

Sanzo pauses a moment to finish whatever delicious morsel he was eating, takes a sip of tea and clears his throat. "Thank you Kaito-san! Heh, honestly, I had not expected to do so well, myself. Sanzo sought out Kitsuki sensei; he had heard of her family's investigatory skills and hoped for any additional insight on the subject. If he was to become a magistrate or yojimbo, he would need to be well-trained in such abilities.

Sanzo is there, of course; he is not one to miss out on such a feast. He takes a seat and immediately begins appreciating his clanmate's work by chowing down as much as he can. He maintains etiquette, as any honorable samurai would, but the his pace of consumption is certainly something to behold.

For his choice of reward, Sanzo seems to gravitate towards things that would serve his role as a bushi: a katana and wakizashi.
